Masai Mara Safari, Kenya, Africa
Masai Mara Safari Adventure, Kenya, Africa
The Masai Mara is the natural extensions of the Serengeti in Tanzania and is located in the Lake Victoria Basin. Far preliminary endless savannahs, rolling grasslands, gallery forests along the Mara River and gentle, long island mountains dominate the fascinating picture, These animals rich parks covers an area of 1700kmq. There is hardly any area in Africa that has to offer such a wide variety of animals. The large animals are particularly & numerously represented. Also a big part of the former forests was destroyed by the elephants.
The Masai Mara (also Maasai Mara) is one of the most important and famous animal sanctuaries in Africa. Its name comes from the park to the people of the Masai nomads who live here and the river passing through it - the Mara. Large areas of the park are dominated by open rolling grassland dotted with acacia and thus offer a safari-perfect for observing the abundant wildlife. In Masai Mara National Reserve you can find the Big Five - the lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, cheetah and other predators such as jackals, large herds of zebra and various antelope. The Masai Mara is famous for its black-maned lions. Seeing the lions only few meters away is like an art masterpiece. Even the usually shy hyenas can be seen here. Giraffes in herds of twenty or more are common in Masai Mara. The fast Giparde can be found here as a dangerous companion of the gazelles and impalas, often barely visible hidden in the grass. With a little luck and the trained eye of the driver, one will find the rare leopard. Rhinos are sadly missed only a few of the savages. The Masai Mara is rich in large birds, and vultures where food is abundant. Here also live bastards, secretary birds, marabou ostrich, touracos, guinea fowls, beautiful canopy cranes. The Masai River and its tributary river Talek are populated by enormous crocodiles and hippos. On the game drives one can encounter again and again the tall Maasai, who had given as the only human inhabitants of this area its name.
A big attraction is the annual spectacle of the Great Migration - the great migration - when the huge wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and antelopes in search of better pastures in the southern Serengeti to the Masai Mara. Up to 2 million wildebeest, in endless caravans on the way and are currently being followed by their hunters, lions and other big cats. Mara River crocodiles are waiting for the wildebeest as they cross the river another danger and risk of losing their lives.
The Masai Mara is a National Reserve and not a National Park The main difference is that the traditional Masai who live here are allowed to graze their cattle in parts of the park herds. In contrast, national parks enjoy the wildlife priority.Conflicts remain between the Masai and the predators who live here - especially the many lions - and the shepherds will get a compensation from the park headquarters from their torn cattle.
