Alvor-One of the Best Holiday Spots in the Western Algarve
The natural Ria of Alvor is just one of the many attractions that Alvor has to offer! Just west of Portimão, if you´re beach hopping then you´ll find on the way Prainha beach with its beautiful red cliffs and Três Irmãos beach! Alvors half moon bay is a natural and safe harbor used for centuries by fishermen and that´s when the settlement started that gave its name to Alvor!Alvor is a perfect place for holidays and has the whole lot that you need for a relaxing stay over. There are plenty of shops and supermarkets for your daily needs and in the evening you can relax while you dine in one of the many fine restaurants that are always serving freshest fish and afterwards you can head over to bar for a drink that plays your favorite music! There are lots to choose from!
Since tourism began to grow, Alvor has seen many developments in the area but the centre of Alvor still has many old style homes in the narrow cobble stone streets that are picture perfect and that quite a few are available for your holiday stay!
There are many choices that you can make as to what type of place you prefer to stay in! Whether it be in a hotel a tourist development or even in a fully equipped traditional style Alvor home in the centre of the village and where all the action takes place! The main beach, called Alvor beach, is just a stones throw away! You will notice fishermen’s huts as you stroll along and end up in a big sand packed beach dune! This beach is so big that even at high summer season there’s always some great expanse of sand just waiting for you!
Going back to mention the Ria of Alvor, this natural park has a couple of rivers leading to this bay! You can stick around and enjoy its peacefulness and admire the boats coming in and out on their fishing business or you can even try your luck for some saltwater fishing at this same spot or if you´re in to fresh water fishing, just follow the western river up to the Bravura dam and try your luck catching one of the many big bass that lurks in these waters! There are canoeing trips as well on this Alvor River, bicycles that you can hire for a stroll, a number of golf courses on this area and boat trips to see the amazing caves around Lagos or even dolphin watching if you prefer!
