American Guy - My First Visit To The Philippines - A 12 Month Journey Begins

Updated on October 12, 2011

Hi friends. It's Daniel. I have been absent a bit recently and the reason is that I have embarked on a new journey. I have been "on the road a month" but will start posting as much as I can. Perhaps you can let me know if you think I should make one HUUGE Philippines Travel hub or just create new ones from time to time.....

Some photos from the days in Manila

I don't want to bore every one to tears, but I got my flight 10 days before I left for 1078 out of San francisco. I booked through Delta direct after an hour of research.

A gentleman I met today told me he paid $2000 because he was coming from Texas. I trained him on checking around because it would have only cost him $200 for his RT to LA or SF probably.

Anyways, back to me. I had a 3 hour lay over in Tokyo. And then right on to Manila. I found my hotel in Manila on The photo above is me upon arrival.

Standard Philippines "tricycle" as they call them.
Standard Philippines "tricycle" as they call them.

I stayed in Manila just a day. So I don't have too much to say. 50 million people hustling and bustling.

I found the numerous "tricycles" and "jeepnies" fascinating.

Jeepnies are the Philippines version of the "city bus" with a little more importance due to many cities lack of other transportation.

The majority don't have cars and rely on these jeepnies in just about every city. It's about 7 or 8 pesos (about .15 cents us as of right now) to take it. You may need to take few different jeepnies to get to your destination.

Sorry, I haven't given you guys much yet, because still "hotel'ing" it. Haven't moved into my house yet.

Lots more to come. Just wanted to get the ball rolling on a blog of some kind. :)

Ooooh, please do a hub on the local cuisine! A Philippine cafe just opened up near my home, and it's be great to have a primer on what to expect when I go there.
