Tourist Destinations

If you want to write something and you need a muse to inspire yourself, search within yourself and do something from the heart.

First, I would like to introduce you to my hometown, San Jose de Buenavista located in the province of Antique, Philippines. Traveling along these roads seem daunting at first. A virtually unknown province that only locals seems to know. But take a deep breath and calm yourself, we are not a province of 'aswangs' or vampires. That is just an urban legend being passed on years ago to small children by parents who wanted to discipline their young ones not to go around unsupervised. You may be interested to know that we have already the Gaisano Grand Mall of Antique conveniently located in Bagumbayan Street, Brgy. 8, San Jose, Antique. Now, that's reassuring to know right? A town where there's a mall nearby is not that bad. Especially we have clean pebbled beaches just 15 minutes away from the capital town proper that you could swim everyday.

I have read a wiki article that describes Antique Province as a place that may not be as luxurious as the usual tourist spots but can offer you low prices and warm local hospitality. The following destinations you can choose from:

Telegrafo Hill Boundary - The Iloilo-Antique boundary commands a beautiful view of San Jose de Buenvaista, Antique. This is the first thing that you will see if you did not fall asleep while sitting on a van. The Welcome marker with Binirayan Country tag was a stronghold during World War II.

Malandog Marker, Golden Salakot - This is located in Malandog, Hamtic, Antique. 7 kms. south of San Jose, Antique which marks the "Landing site of the first Malayan settlers 1200 A.D" .

La Granja, Binirayan Hills, San Jose, Antique - From the spanish word meaning 'the farm' - La Granja was originally a school (Antique National School) farm that became a site for the Evelio B. Javier Sports Complex with a grandstand, Hall of Justice, Department of Education Building, Provincial Swimming Pool, Department of Agrarian Reform Office, Department of Environment & Natural Resources Office, Department of Public Works & Highways Office, and the site of the yearly Binirayan Festival. This is conveniently located at the hills of the town where you can see the sea and the sunset at Bondoc's Viewing Deck Bar & Restaurant.

Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park- This park is situated in the heart of the town. You would not miss it because it is surrounded by the old and new Antique Provincial Capitol building, Catholic Church. The park is named in honor of the late Gov. Evelio B. Javier who was 'assassinated on February 11, 1986 while defending freedom and democracy from the forces of martial law'. His replica can be seen prominetly in this park. Around these area you can also find most commercial banks such as BPI, RCBC and BDO. Mang Inasal & Jolibee fast food chains can also be found here.

St. Agustin High School - Most of the vans that goes to Boracay, Caticlan will pass by Patnongon, Antique. This town boasts of an impressive ruins of a century-old Spanish church and Spanish convent. Let your driver slow down a bit for a quick look on this historical site.

Estaca Hill, Bugasong, Antique - this site has an elevation of some 200 feet and a view of the sea and hills which was an ideal site for a watchtower that used to warn people of Muslim pirates.

Other natural wonders include: Nogas Island, Sira-an Hot Spring, Cresta de Gallo - all in the town of Anini-y, Antique; Pula (red tinted) Waterfalls, Bato Cueva (rock cave), Danao Lake in San Remegio, Antique; Batabat Coral Reefs, Cadiao Resort (Mountain Resort with waterfalls), Hatay-hatay Beach Resort in Barbaza, Antique; Manglamon Beach Cave & Bugtong Bato Waterfalls in Tibiao, Antique; Mararison & Batbatan Island (white sand), Kipot Falls & Mt. Madia-as in Culasi. Kalamasag Falls, Igpasungaw Falls, Bugtong Bukid (resthouse) in Sebaste, Antique. Malumpati Resort (Cold Springs), Marble Mountain (marble deposit) in Pandan, Antique; Idiayan Resort, Maanghit Cave, Duyong Beach in Libertad, Antique.

With all the natural and man made wonders in Antique we are tagged as the place where the mountain meets the sea. This place is an ideal getaway for those seeking adventure. You might be saying I left my heart in Antique one of these days.
