Situated near Camden’s funky market, it’s not too hard to miss Arizona Bar and restaurant. The first thing that catches your eye as soon as you walk into this Mexican/ Tex Mex restaurant, is the  bright orange and green décor and the big straw hats that are pinned to the walls, giving it that exquisite Mexican touch. It definitely stands out from the rest of the restaurants on the market.

Having heard mixed reviews of Arizona, I was at first reluctant to spend my Friday night at this place and did wonder after paying £20 for two, if I would get my money’s worth.

I’m not a great fan of Mexican food so I made a point to be extremely fussy. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive food that was on offer- especially the selection for vegetarians, which kept my friend happy! The fajitas and vegetable wraps with boiled brown rice were a hot favourite and had a unique blend of spices that were just right. Compared to most other restaurants whose Mexican dishes are either extremely spicy or over burnt, Arizona’s dishes are cooked to your liking and are extremely tasty and are served as generous portions. (Though I still prefer the nacho dips at Chiquito’s as these were slightly soggy!).  The staff were pleasant and offered a very friendly service. By 11pm, all the tables were cleared away, allowing space for us to dance wildly and get into the mood before we made our way to the bar.

On a Friday and Saturday night, Arizona becomes more of a bar than a restaurant, playing the best R&B, soul and garage music. The drinks menu has everything from the finest wines and beers to creative cocktails. Happy hour is from 5-7pm, providing 2 for 1 offers and a discount on other drinks such £1.50 for a glass of wine etc.

Arizona attracts a variety of clientele, couples, and families and their Saturday and Sunday family roast dinners are a hot choice. Arizona even caters for private parties for up to 250 people, which has a great atmosphere and is very trendy. It also provides seating on the pavement area and live music.

Overall, it was a great night out and certainly changed my opinion about Mexican food. Whether it’s a dinner for two or a night of cocktails that you are after- Arizona Bar and Restaurant is the best place to hang out on the weekend and definitely has put Camden back on the map.
