Bahrain Weather

Updated on October 25, 2009

The weather in Bahrain

So, I can hear you all asking, what is the weather like in Bahrain?

Well I'm glad that you asked, I reply, as I have a few words to say about the weather in Bahrain. The easiest description, most appropriate in the summer months, is that Bahrain is hot, some would say hot and humid. I however think that this would be a bit of a cop-out as the weather in Bahrain changes over the year. I will admit that the summers can be hot and humid but they are not always unbearably so. The Fall and Spring in Bahrain are mild and pleasant, very comfortable. Winter, especially late December and January can be cold with the night time temperature in Bahrain falling to as low as 3 or 4 degrees C on occasions. They have even had frost and ice develop in Awali.

An overview

Bahrain is situated in the Arabian Gulf, just off the coast of Saudi Arabia and next to the Qatari peninsula. The waters of the Gulf are relatively shallow and so in summer do heat up. Some compare getting into the sea in the middle of summer as getting into a very warm bath, and they are not exaggerating. This leads to the hot and humid atmosphere which can develop in summer. However in winter the Gulf can suffer from strong winds from the north which bring cold air into the area which in tern cool down the sea and the air making winters comparatively cool.

Spring and Fall in bahrain

Spring can pass swiftly or linger, Bahrain is usually very pleasant at this time and it is a great time to enjoy the outdoors and boating. The Bahrain F1 Grand Prix is normally held in March or April and the weather for this has been spectacular, though dust storms (shamal's) can develop at this time of year. The spring is a good time to visit Bahrain if you are looking for nice weather.

After the hot summer months Fall can be a welcome relief, Bahrain's Schools are back in session and Bahrain's weather returns to being very pleasant, like the spring. The weather should stay pleasant until the end of December.

At this time of year Bahrain will often get early morning fog. This can start just after midnight and will last until the sun burns it off at around 8 in the morning, sometimes later.

Summer in Bahrain

Bahrain's summer temperatures can be high, sometimes touching 50 C at the peak. Surprisingly though it tends not to be the high temperatures which causes problems on its own but the high humidity. The high humidity when coupled with high temperatures make the heat seem hotter. Not the best time to visit Bahrain. Many families go away for a month or more at this time of year. On the other hand the weather can turn and after a few hot and humid days the humidity can disappear and leave the Island feeling very comfortable. August and early September tend to be the worst for humidity.

Winter weather in Bahrain

Bahrain is mostly mild and pleasant during the winter monthe. The end of December will normally tern colder and these cold temperatures can persist until February or March. If visiting at this time a jumper will probably be required. Normally Bahrain does not have too much rain but large thunderstorms can pass through and can be common until April or May. Apart from the occasional spot of rain this is a pleasant time of year to be out and about in Bahrain and could be a good time to visit.

Good description on the weather.Bahrain lies in the tropical region and that is the reason for its hot and humid climate. Thanks for the rest of the info.
