Barbados Advocate

Updated on October 25, 2010

The Barbados Advocate

The Barbados Advocate or more commonly known to locals as “The Advocate” is 2nd most popular newspaper in the island of Barbados. The newspaper was initially founded in 1895. Since the time of inception “The Advocate” has covered a great variety of subjects such as:

  • Sports
  • Editorials
  • Politics
  • Entertainment
  • Investigations
  • And other International topics

Despite The Adovates' age, it still lags behind its biggest competitor - Nation Newspaper. "The Nation" was only founded in 1973 but it is considered the number one newspaper in Barbados and for locals living outside of Barbados. What has helped this newspaper overtake The Advocate was the fact that its parent company, ONE Caribbean Media Limited, decided to create a Canadian publication available to the majority of Barbadian expatriates in Canada.
