Bear N Mom - Travel- Ocean 22 Myrtle Beach SC
Are you interested in staying at this location and others like it?
This year's family vacation took us to Ocean 22, a Hilton Grand Vacation Club hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It was planned as a family vacation for myself, my son with his family and my daughter, her husband and her daughter. My daughter had planned to take her granddaughter but that didn't happen.
Ocean 22 is a newer timeshare property owned by Hilton Grand Vacation Club which is situated on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean with all of the sunshine associated with the Carolinas and summer travel. It is situated on North Ocean Boulevard and boasts all three of the main swimming requirements of inside, outside pools and the ocean sand and beach.
Check In
We drove from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Myrtle Beach. We left a day earlier than our check in date and stayed in Dillon overnight at a Days Inn. My family wanted to spend as much time as possible on their vacation at the beach.
We arrived at Ocean 22 at 10 a.m. which is their checkout time. I was able to preregister our arrival at the registration desk which is located on the second floor. While we were preregistering so that we could get on the housekeeping list of arrivals, we were given our parking passes for both cars and rubber bracelets which are your pool passes.
Across from the registration desk is Conciege where they gave us discount for restaurants and free passes to the Miniature Golf which is located at their Anderson property two blocks away. These passes are available to owners every day and you can play miniature golf daily.
We also received free passes to Wild Water and Wheels which is located on Hwy. 17 which is less than 2 miles from Ocean 22. The value of these tickets is $32 and again you can get these tickets from the Conciege Desk every day or as often as you like and they are free to Ocean 22 guests.
Beach vs. Pool areas
Since I am not a sand and beach person but my family is, Ocean 22, like most of the Ocean Boulevard properties, offers the best of both.
Sand and ocean waves are just what my family and grandchildren love. My daughter and her husband spend time walking the shore looking for seashells. My son and his wife sit in sand chairs watching their boys frolic in the waters or building sand castles.
Meanwhile, I'm at the pool sitting under an umbrella at a table with chairs that are similar to patio chairs. I'm also allergic to direct sunlight due to having sun poisening as a child so I have to sit out of the sun at the pools or use the indoor pool and hot tubs. I have been lucky that I've been adopted by the pool personnel with my walker and they have been seeing that I have an umbrella table to sit under and looking the other way when I arrive before the pool area is open at 8 am to use the hot tub.
Pool Hours and Activities
The pool area is the main activity area for daily games for the children. On Tuesday, Ocean 22 has snow cones available for anyone who wants one at 2 p.m. The snow cone machine is located on the pool deck that houses the pool side bar.
On Monday, a live band performed on the deck next to the hot tub between 2 and 5 p.m.
Children's games are held another day but there is a children's room that has movies for the children along with other toys and games. There are computers available for the older children's entertainment.
Deli, Fitness Room, Bar and Spa
The deli has breakfast and lunch available along with every day need such as ketchup, mustard, milk, bread and various deli and frozen food items. It is there that you can purchase toys for the beach, Hilton Grand Vacation t-shirts, golf shirts and tote bags.
Located on the second floor with the Registration Desk, the Evening Hours Bar is located right outside the Deli.
Across from the Deli is the Fitness Center for those people who want to tone up their muscles before hitting the hot tub.
Also available on the 2nd floor is an ATM which is located outside of the Marketing Center where tours are taken by prospective buyers into the timeshare.
For those who want a massage and spa, the Anderson has this available for you only a few blocks away. You can use your parking pass at the Anderson since it is also a Hilton property. I treated myself to a Swedish Massage but opted out of the Deep Herbal Treatment since it required me to get into and out of a deep tub. I did a shower instead.
Shopping
Our first night at Ocean 22 we went to Walmart to do the grocery shopping for the week we would be staying at Myrtle Beach. We only spent $140 for two families for the week on groceries. Of course, there were some adult beverages included in that shopping trip too.
Tuesday we went to Broadway on the Beach which is a shopping type mall situated around a lake. Because I can't walk long distances, I was compelled to rent a scooter for the day which cost $32.
Scooters are available for the week, costing $175 to $225, but have to be reserved prior to you trip. The scooters are then delivered to you hotel and picked up after your checkout. Since they do not have scooter availability on the Boardwalk, this would be the only option if you needed one for that purpose.
