Although this beach park has officially launched and open to the public in spring of 2016, it is well on its way to being one of Florida's No. 1 beach park attractions on it's Sun Coast! What makes this beach park a little different is the modernized amenities and activities it has to offer. Now, coming up on Fall of 2015, a significant percentage of SunWest Park is complete so far; but it still has some development to undergo before this beach can it's launch full operations by next year's goal.

What Amenities and Activities Will SunWest Park Have?

Three of the main amenities and activities at SunWest Park that set it apart from others include:

  • A customized, only of it's kind Aqua Park that's stationed right on the water; and complete with a durable and inflatable playground certified by the World AquaGames Association.

  • A wakeboard park with a 'System 2.0' wakeboarding cable system; and eventually a Full Size cable system expected to fully roll out in summer of 2016. The 'System 2.0' system is said to be ideal for those learning to wakeboard, and for those just looking to polish up on their skills using their specialty wakeboarding implements.

  • The entire beach park is built upon a spring fed 70 acre lake containing fresh water! Although it does lie very close to a salt water channel and has no access to the Gulf of Mexico, a minute amount of saline seepage is present within the water. However, because the content is so small, visitors are able to swim underwater with their eyes open, without risk of burning them as the salt water of the ocean would.
  • So many more amenities and recreational activities are planned and envisioned for this area!

Although, they do offer the necessary equipment and vessels to enjoy all activities at the Park for a small fee (except swimming is free). Parking is available for a $5.00 fee, and will be offering $30.00 annual passes shortly after future developments are complete. There are very nice restroom and outdoor shower facilities, picnic tables, benched areas, beach shelters and covered pavilions available for use at SunWest park for everyone to enjoy— all this is surrounded by white sand beaches, eye catching landscaping and a beautiful large freshwater lake. SunWest also permits picnics lunches; but is also partnering with several local food & shop vendors to offer visitors the option to enjoy some local flavors and products while visiting the beach park. This beach park is also designed to be able to accommodate event & party hosting in several areas of the beach park, but does not allow weddings as of yet.

The park is also equipped with several handicap ramps in specific areas to ensure that every visitor can enjoy the many things it has to offer. In an effort to keep the beach park clean & safe for all visitors, the beach park does NOT allow dogs or other pets on the property unless it is a verified service animal.

Envisioned For the Future

Commissioner Mariano and County Commissioners are in development negotiations; and have future development plans for the waterfront property, and are optimistic that the site will potentially include: boardwalks, an amphitheater, nature trails, gift shops, multiple vendors, a manatee observation tower and boat ramps. There's so much potential, and great ideas for development on this property; the site of an old limestone mine in this coastal paradise. SunWest Park is only a part of what is store for this area of the Sun Coast. Developers also plan to develop and further expand specific areas the site into a residential village, marina and recreation resort called SunWest Harbortowne. This state of the art "recreational resort & marina" is said to consist of golf courses, restaurants, shopping, a marina and luxury hotel, residential & commercial properties and the ability to enjoy boating, canoeing, fishing & more.

Building a beach park and a resort of this caliber will not only attract domestic and international visitors; but they can also be great assets to the county and state economies, and provide a vast array of skilled employment opportunities for local Florida residents.
