Best Hidden Beaches in India

Updated on September 6, 2014

For many beach vacation in India means only two destinations. These places are Kerala and Goa. While these 2 states have some of the finest beaches in India, they aren't the only states with exotic beaches. There are some hidden beaches in India that you might not have heard about. The advantage here is that these beaches are untouched and less crowded, perfect for some quite time. Here are the best hidden beaches in India.

It's unfortunate that some nice beaches are unknown to the tourists. The prime reason is lack of infrastructure here and ignorance by the state tourism departments. However slowly all coastal states of India have started to realize the value of beach tourism and therefore more efforts are being put to develop tourism here. States like Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra have woken up by the success of Goa and Kerala tourism. Both these states attract largest number of foreign tourists, primary because of their exotic shoreline.

Dwarka Beach - Not many people know that Dwarka has a beach. Even less people know that Dwarka beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in India. In fact it is better than some of the popular beaches in Goa and Kerala. The water at the beach is crystal clear, waves are not strong and most important, it remains deserted. You must travel Gujarat to spend some quality time at the Dwarka beach. Not to mention, Dwarka is one of the char dham yatra destination. The town was believed to be established by Lord Krishna.

Karwar Beach - Another state that has long been underrated for its beaches is Karnataka. Karwar beach is perhaps best kept secret of the state. Despite the beauty of the beach, it was ignored by both tourists and tourism officials. Only back in 2002, Karnataka decided to develop tourism related infrastructure at the Karwar beach. One thing I like about Karwar beach is that unlike may others, the wind here is relatively calm. I don't know about others but I quite enjoyed it. There are few restaurants at the beach where you can enjoy traditional food of the state. The combination is just perfect. Try it once in your life.

Puri Beach - You can be forgiven for thinking Puri as just a pilgrimage destination. After all for millions of tourists Puri travel means paying homage at the Lord Jagannath Puri temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world. Just like Dwarka, Puri is also famous for the charm dham yatra. And just like Dwarka, Puri has a beach which is yet to capture attention of the tourists. Puri beach, sometimes referred as Golden beach because of golden sand, is considered to be excellent for swimming. Puri is located in Orissa state. It can be reached by train or by taxi from Bhubneswar. So next time to visit Puri, make sure to spend some time at the exotic Puri beach.

Alibag - For people of Mumbai, Alibag is nice weekend escape from the rush of city. While other consider Alibag as one of the finest beach destination in the country. While the focus of tourists has been captured Alibaug Beach, the main beach of the city. Varsoli Beach and Akshi Beach are best kept secret of Alibag. Both beaches are famous for crystal clear water and white sand. These beaches are paradise for romantic couples who are looking for some time alone. Therefore choose to travel Alibag for a romantic weekend getaway.

Kutch Mandvi Beach - One of the least explored beaches in India is Kutch Mandvi Beach located in Gujarat. Mandvi is one of the virgin beaches in Gujarat. It is hardly explored by the tourists. Kutch Mandvi Beach is famous for blue ocean, sandy beach, various species of birds and calmness. You can also see wooden ships construction at the port. I would suggest you to take a camel ride on the beach, a truly memorable experience.

Mayank, you have highlighted some beautiful and unknown beaches for us. I knew about the ones at Alibag.

May I add that at Dahanu there is Bordi beach which is a treat to be on with clear waters and not much crowd.

It is a pleasure to be on these uncrowded beaches.

      voted up & useful.
