Updated on January 28, 2017

Sensation has been attraction tourists of all kind since ages. Son Doong cave is one wonderful demonstration of curiosity, sensation, and interest, especially for cave lovers. This cave is a remarkable jewel in the touring treasure chest of Vietnam. Rather, it can be safely claimed that it is one of its own kind. It is because the world is yet to witness a cave of this much magnitude. This 7-kilometer long, 150 meters high and 200 meters wide amazingly fascinated cave is exactly a wonder. It is located in the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Par, central Vietnam, the province Quang Binh. This starkly dark wonder came to fore by an individual. However, the British Cave Research Association systematically explored it later on. The deft hands of river water crafted this marvellous natural phenomenon from the limestone lying below the mountain about 2 to 5 million years ago.

What Makes It Different From Other Tours

Unlike beaches or other sightseeing points, the access to this wonder is a very demanding. Rather it is a test of passion. Tourists trode this magnificent point of interest in the year 2013 for the first time. The guided tour cost an arm and leg to the each tourist, three thousand dollars per head. Bearing in mind safety and conservation matters, complexities, and risks involved, no tourist can visit on one’s own. It is different from ordinary sights where everybody can pay a visit during the visiting hours. Last year, i.e., 2015, only 500 people were that lucky. The reason is that park that houses this wonder is enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Site. This year, i.e., 2016, the government of has allowed a certain tour operation to take a group to explore the cave.

Diverse Activities

As regards the range of activities, it is all about exploring the nature and do activities similar to mountain climbing, sightseeing, photography, and trekking. It is quite an expansive tour that is only feasible and possible when certain preconditions are met. Therefore, the tourist operator has to organize an expedition including porters, guides, safety experts, necessary equipment, etc. Regarding the tourists count, the current operator facilitates only ten people in a single tour. In addition to these, a person has to be as fit as a fiddle. Because, the tour consumes five days and makes the visitors travel on foot for more than 50 kilometres, involving rigorous effort. The current tour operator requires previous experience of trekking from every potential tourist to qualify taking part in this adventure. There are several other requirements too. The tours are available from February to August only. The month of August follows torrential rains that make some parts of the cave out of reach. These tours are run on a weekly basis because each entails travel of 5 days and four nights.

Overflowing Fun

Regarding the fun, it is all about experiencing the wonder. The wonder that lies deep inside a jungle. It involves exploring an alien landscape. Where Clouds keep mystifying the trails. You will have, climb and down, to wade through water, mud, traversing rainforests, witness coral fossils 350 million years of age, caving, etc.
