Traveling has always been one of my passions. It exposes us to new cultures, experiences, and makes the world a better, more tolerant place.

One of the highlights of the year in western Massachusetts is without a doubt the Bright Nights Celebration that takes place annually in beautiful Forest Park. Begun back in 1995, the event, now in its 23rd year has become a family tradition for many and a great way to enjoy the Holiday Season. Selected as one of the top one hundred events in America for the last four years the celebration runs from the day before Thanksgiving through New Years Day.

Bright Nights is a 3-mile drive through Springfield's Forest Park, which has been transformed into an unbelievable display of some of our favorite characters. One of the most popular areas of Bright Nights is Seuss Land. Dr. Theodore Giselle, otherwise affectionately known as Dr. Seuss, was born and raised in the Forest Park section of Springfield. The community has embraced his work and honored his legacy with this annual celebration and Seuss Land is one of the most popular sections of the Bright Nights Display.

The drive through Forest Park takes visitors by over 450 displays. Open daily from 5pm to 9pm, until 11pm on weekends and holidays; Bright Nights attracts visitors from throughout New England and many folks have made this a family tradition and return yearly.

The leisurely drive takes visitors through the Magic Forest into Seuss Land, Santa’s Village, Jurassic World, Toy Land, the North Pole, the Rose garden, and by the historic Barney Mansion. Along the way you will see some of your favorite characters, which can be enjoyed to holiday music provided by one of the local radio stations.

It seems as though no matter how many times one makes the drive through Bright Nights they always spot something new and the display is constantly updated and enhanced.

Some of the displays are even setup to give the illusion of the characters moving. A great spot to see this is the area where the reindeer are literally jumping over the road as the cars pass by underneath.

I can’t think of a better way to get into the holiday spirit than to take a ride through this magical display.

The entry fee is $18 per car from Monday to Thursday and $21 from Friday to Sunday. Discount coupons are always available in the area and there are numerous bus tours that will take visitors through the park should you wish to leave the driving to someone else.

If you have kids this really is one of the neatest things that you can do with them during the holiday season. Carriage Rides and Horse-Drawn Wagon rides are also available on the weekends and make for a memorable experience. Santa Claus is also present in Santa’s Magical Forest and visitors are encouraged to pay a visit. Santa’s Village has an area for refreshments in addition to Santa’s mailbox, which will get your letters to the North Pole in quick order.

We've had the opportunity to take the drive through the Bright Nights display on numerous occasions and we never tire of it. If you happen to be visiting the Springfield, Massachusetts area between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day make it a point to head to Forest Park for the annual Bright Nights Holiday Lighting Celebration

According to their website it was for Active Military only. They should consider changing that to include Veterans also. As to "why", I have no idea.

Why do they say military night and veterans are not welcome.

Hi Suzie. Yeah, it is a bit on the pricey side. We always go with a coupon, or this year we went on the first night, which had rolled back the fee to the first year they started this so it was only $6. With a car full it's not bad. The kids do love it, adults also. Thanks so much for stopping by and the vote and share. Have a wonderful day.
