Cayman Islands Vacation

Updated on October 3, 2014

Map of Grand Cayman Island

The Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are part of the British Territories and sit in the western part of the Caribbean Sea. There are three islands all together, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and then Little Cayman. The Cayman Islands sit south of Cuba and Northwest of Jamaica. Many cruise lines stop at Grand Cayman as part of their itinerary destinations while sailing in the Caribbean. This is how my family and I came to visit the Cayman Islands. Just a couple years ago we went on a seven day cruise out of the Port of Tampa and one of the stops on our cruise was Grand Cayman Island. We found the people to be spectacular and hospitable and we felt very safe in all the areas that we explored.

Vacation Cayman Islands

Cayman Islands are perfect for vacations and honeymoons, with the beautiful Caribbean Sea and gorgeous clean beaches and first class reefs makes for a great vacation destination. If you are into any kind of water sports then this is the place for you. The islands offer an abundance of water activities from swimming, snorkeling, para-sailing, fishing, scuba diving, jet skiing, and etc. If you are not into water sports you may want to check out the shopping the islands have to offer, with hundreds of shops and boutiques to offer everything that a person is looking for from jewelry to Cuban cigars. Also Georgetown (the islands capitol) offers many attractions including its historic center that dates back to the 18th Century. Also Georgetown has a National Museum for the Cayman Islands that is located in a building that is over 150 years old. On North Church St. there sits a Maritime Museum that has a lot of rich history of the islands themselves and the seas around the islands. Cayman Islands offer anything and everything a person is looking for in a tropical vacation.

Wife and I in Hell

Cayman Islands “Hell”

One of the highest visited places on Grand Cayman Island is the town of Hell. This little town and I mean little is a post office that dates back to the 1960’s and a tourist site of eerie black rock formations. From the pictures of his hub you can see what I mean by eerie rock formations. The post office is set up so when you visit Hell you can send a post card to your friends and family back home saying I writing you from Hell. After a few pictures and after you send off your postcard from Hell you have seen it all. But really and truly you cannot go to Grand Cayman Island and at least spend a few minutes in Hell.

Wedding Long the Beach on Grand Cayman

Getting Married in Cayman Islands.

Couples love coming to Cayman Islands for their romantic weddings, the Cayman Islands offers couples an unique experience that is set apart from the traditional church weddings. Couples can come and have a gorgeous beachfront wedding with the Caribbean Sea as the background for their wedding photos. Couples come here from all over the world to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity to tie the knot with their lifelong partner. Also getting married in this area of the Caribbean could not be easier.

A couple things I have noticed with a getting married at one of these tropical ports is that everything is simple and easy. Most of the wedding companies that put these packages together pretty much take care of everything, all you need to do is show up and hold hands say “I Do”. How much easier and stress free is that and don’t forget to mention much more affordable than a traditional wedding. Just something to think about if you are thinking about getting married this way.

Dolphin Cove on Grand Cayman

One of the big adventures that many people love to do when on vacation in the Caribbean is swim with the Dolphins. Dolphin Cove on the Cayman Islands offers you that chance in a lifetime to swim with Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins. My wife has been bugging me for years to go somewhere to swim with the dolphins. At Dolphin Cove you can interact with the dolphins, get your picture taken with them and learn more about the life of dolphins. Dolphin Cove offers more than the opportunity to swim with dolphins, they even have jungle walks through thick native trees, plants and flowers. A day at Dolphin Cove is a must if you are going to spend any time on Grand Cayman. It is one of my favorite places to spend the day at.
