Updated on January 23, 2012

Travelers looking for cheap flights to San Antonio, Texas are in for a pleasant surprise. Several discount airlines fly from San Antonio. The king of cheap airline tickets, Southwest Airlines, operates the most flights from the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) with over 30% of the commercial flights. They own the market and it has made this destination a very competitive market for flights within the US.

For airfare from Canada to San Antonio, Air Canada have code-sharing through their Star Alliance partners Continental and United. You can find good deals on airfare to SAT from Canada with travel search engines like Low Fares, Travelocity and Mobissimo.

For travelers from Mexico, the Mexican airline, AeroMexico fly to San Antonio.

Cheap Airline Tickets

The best days of the week to fly from San Antonio for cheap airline tickets are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The airport is one of the top 20 airports in the US based on passenger volume and compared to many destinations in the US, this market has very good airfare pricing. This is largely due to the presence of Southwest Airlines. Southwest and their partner Air Tran are known for their discount airline tickets and the other major air carriers price their flights to compete.

To find the best price, you'll need to compare the prices on Southwest's website with the airfares you can find through an airfare search engine like Mobissimo or Travelociy. The search engines do not list Southwest's airfare, making it necessary to do a separate search on the Southwest site itself.
