College Hangouts In Dallas Texas

Updated on June 3, 2015

Dallas has several top rated colleges including Southern Methodist University and the University of North Texas. Students from colleges in the surrounding areas and other college aged young adults descend on Dallas on the weekends for fun and life in the fast lane. This article will provide you with some helpful information on where to go, and where to be seen if you are in the college crowd.

Lower Greenville Avenue, Uptown, and Deep Ellum

There are two main areas of Dallas that you would want to hit up if you are looking to have a great night out with your friends. Maybe three if you still want to count Deep Ellum and the arts district. Here is the skinny:

Lower Greenville Avenue- Affectionately referred to as just "Lower Greenville", this strip will give you plenty of choices when it comes to bars and dancing and pool tables. It really just depends on what mood you are in. Every bar is within walking distance of each other, so if you don't like one place, just walk next door. Just keep in mind that every place will charge a cover at a certain point, so if you keep going place to place, you could drop a lot of cash. The lines to get in sometime get a little long, but the normal ratio is 3 girls to every one guy they let in. My personal favorites are the Beagle, Zubar, and The Red Jacket. All three offer huge bars with plenty of space and live DJs all night long. The prices at the Red Jacket are a little lower than Zubar and Beagle. Beagle does have two floors and a rooftop with a great view. The second floor of the Beagle has pool tables for use.

Deep Ellum- This is the arts district in Dallas. The best musical acts from all over the world come and perform here. Pretty much, there have been a few places close their doors, but the best of the best would be Trees. There are two other clubs that get some great acts also and that is Club Clearview and the Gypsy Tea Room. These are more venues to go and drink and listen to a band play. For dancing and pool bars see the Lower Greenville section.

Uptown- Just like it sounds this is the most hip and trendiest college hangout spot in Dallas. Most of these bars and clubs are newly renovated and are top of the line. Yes, you could run into movie stars and sports celebrities in the clubs in uptown. The clubs are tons of fun, but can sometimes be hard to get in to. If you are looking to get your drink on, I would recommend Tribeca Bar And Lounge, Babalu, and The Idle Rich Pub. All around you just can't go wrong in uptown.

Pete's Dueling Piano Bar And The Dallas Improv

My vote for best Dallas college hangout is Pete's Dueling Piano Bar. The Dallas location is actually located in Addison, Texas. This is truly one of the best places and the most fun times I have ever had. The good news is that this place is always jam packed with the college crowd, and it still brings in some of the young adult crowd as well. Great drink prices and be prepared to have a blast. You have to call ahead to reserve a table, but you can still find somewhere to sit usually. If you need a break, right across the hall in the same building is the Dallas Improv so you can go laugh your head off, and then go back to the piano bar to finish out the night.

This is a short video about Lower Greenville in Dallas just to give you a look at what it has to offer. Lower Greenville is the spot for yearly St. Patrick's Day Parade.
