The Zoo In The Middle Of St. Paul
The Other Zoo
This page is about the other zoo in Minnesota. This is the Como Park Zoo. It's located in the heart of the city of St. Paul. There's no entrance fee, just voluntary contributions when you go in. It's much smaller than the zoo in Apple Valley, but it has the plus of having a little kid midway in it. It also has a flower conservatory in it.
Around Halloween time, they have what they call the "Zoo Boo." It's a non-scary alternative to trick or treating. The workers dress in cute animal costumes and kids are given different kinds of candy and fun projects to work on. The animals that can handle Minnesota weather in October are out for everyone to see.
There are different animal exhibits here than in the Apple Valley Zoo, and there's no monorail here. It doesn't need one, it's much smaller. My husband prefers this one because you don't have to pay to get into it.
Fun For The Kids
If you have children, you might want to visit the kid midway while you're there. There's about a dozen little kid sized rides, and they've recently changed it so that you can buy a ride wristband, or a card that can be recharged. There's some games, and most of those, every child wins some kind of prize just for trying. Then, of course, there's all the bad, greasy food the every kid likes. They've recently added a miniature golf course across the street from the zoo, and there's a myriad of picnic areas.
On June 3, 2010, the new Polar Bear Exhibit opened up. You might want to make a trip there now, it looks like it's going to be an amazing exhibit!
It's a great time for adults and children alike.
Which Zoo Do You Prefer?
I like the Minnesota Zoo better because it's larger. The downside is that you have to pay to get in.
Which one is better?
I just love it when other Squids stop by my pages. Let me know you were here.
