Five Incredible Underwater Hotels Around the World

Updated on April 4, 2019

This proposed project is set to be 20 meters underwater off the coast of Jumeriah beach in Dubai. The cost is estimated to $550 USD, making the hotel not only one of the biggest architectural endeavors but also one of the most expensive hotels.

The hotel consists of three segments: the landing station (where guests will be greeted), a train (transporting the guests between the other two structures), and the underwater hotel itself. The landing station is also set to contain a theater, ballroom, shops, conference center, restaurant and research laboratory.

With 220 planned suites, each one costing $5,000 per night, if opened, Hydropolis will surely become a power house in the hotel industry. The final opening date is unknown, yet, when opened it will surely become a top tourist destination.

Jules Undersea Lodge

Located in Key Largo, this Lodge is only accessible by scuba diving. One must dive 21 feet below the surface of the Emerald Lagoon to reach the Lodge. Jules also provides a Scuba Diving Program for those who are not certified. Aside from an overnight stay, Jules Undersea Lodge also provides a three-hour visiting program, in which dinner is provided.

Originally home to La Chalupa research center, Jules Lodge is not only the first and only true underwater hotel, but also the first underwater research center. It is surrounded by a multitude of native tropical fish - angelfish, parrotfish and even barracuda. The Lodge itself provides structure and shelter to the fish, acting as an artificial coral reef.

More of a cozy cabin than a luxurious hotel, Jules Lodge provides both simplicity and authenticity. Whether you want to take a dive through the lagoon and explore the lodge, or stay a night and wake up to the fish passing by, Jules Lodge is a must for any scuba diver looking for a new adventure.

Poseidon Undersea Resort

This is slated to become a string of five-star resorts in Fiji - both on land and sea. Consisting of 225 acres, surrounded by a 5,000 acre lagoon and 90 feet deep waters the resort will surely be a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Poseidon offers three lodging options: on their private island, on the water or below the water's surface.

The hotel is set to be comprised of 70% clear acrylic glass, opening up the mysteries of the sea to every guest. Poseidon is set to become the first sea-floor resort - containing suites, a golf course, library, spa, gyms, two restaurants a wedding chapel and cinema. Not only this, but the resort hopes to provide adventure for all, utilizing several submersibles and scuba diver instructors, Poseidon plans to bring the sea to all of it's guests.

Reservations can be made at their website, though the final date of opening is still unknown. The estimated price is $30,000 per couple - truly an extravagant stay.

This recently proposed hotel could end up on Kuredhivaru in the Maldive Islands. Resembling a scene out of a sci-fi movie, this hotel hovers above the water, supported by several poles reaching down to the depths of the ocean.

The proposed plan surrounds the idea of 22 movable underwater pods, each serving as a suite. Deep Ocean Technology is behind this structure, expending what looks like $50 million (USD) for construction. This hotel is unique in that it is actually a bit movable. In case of emergency the structure can surface.

Manta Resort

This single room is located on the Zanzibari island of Pemba in Africa. The room is just 13 feet in the Indian Ocean, surrounded by an expansive sea, home to coral reefs and tropical fish. The resort features a roof deck and underwater bedroom, which is surrounded by expansive windows, offering a panoramic view of the underwater. A night's stay will cost you $900, a price that will you a private underwater getaway.

Well I guess it's the same thing as those glass tunnels in the aquariums. Could you imagine a break there, with sharks filling the passageway? Scary thought, but I'm sure there has to be architectural strategies in place so that would never happen.

This is a cool concept, but what if there is a leak? It seems very risky architecturally - I would not trust the stability of the structure. Love the pics!

It would definitely be something new. The ice hotels do seem pretty cool, but your right, with these winter temperature, not so sure I'll be going there anytime soon.

How fascinating! I'm not sure how I'd feel about sleeping under water...a little claustrophobic maybe! But they sure are beautiful and would be something to see. I also think some of the ice hotels look interesting, but after this winter think I'd wait awhile to visit. Voted up and interesting!
