Cruising The Whitsunday Islands

Updated on December 18, 2015

Explore the Whitsunday Islands

Cruising the Whitsundays!

Sounds beautiful - relaxing on board a catamaran and was not having to cook or wash dishes for a couple of days - snorkeling in those beautiful waters ... sipping wine as the sun goes down .........

Is this an adventure you have been dreaming of for years maybe even as long as myself - over 28 years since I saw the Whitsundays on TV in New Zealand and have only just made it a reality!

Why not turn the dream into reality and enjoy your dream holiday while you are able to make the most of it!

We chose to cruise with Whitsunday Catamarans as they had a maximum of 8 aboard the catamaran which is the same amount on board our houseboat at the Horizontal Falls recently.

Meals were provided and there was snorkeling planned as well as a must do the trip to Whitehaven Beach, a place everyone had recommended for us to explore!

Now before you start to get the idea we are loaded - that is not true - we both are working so we can experience our bucket list dreams.

So start saving and planning your dream trip!

The Whitsunday Islands of which there are 74 Islands are in Queensland Australia about 1 1/2 hours flight from Brisbane, about 5 hours down from Townsville and a boat ride from Airlie Beach which has everything you need for a holiday after your cruise.

Getting to the Whitsunday Islands

Depending on your plans you can fly directly to Airlie Beach then stay there and do day trips out to the reef.

We flew into Townsville & spent time there and Magnetic Island followed by a couple of days in Bowen and took a bus to Airlie Beach and arrived a few hours before we were due to sail out on Whitsunday Blue for 2 nights.

There are two major domestic airports situated close to Airlie Beach; the Great Barrier Reef Airport located on Hamilton Island and Whitsunday Coast Airport and you can fly from Brisbane, Sydney and Cairns.

What a wonderful experience! We went on a day cruise with 'Cruise Whitsundays' while we were there, which was great too. Enjoyed dropping in and spending some time on Daydream and Long Islands. It's just such a beautiful part of the world! I'm thinking we will have to do the Catamaran trip next time we visit, it looks like you had a great time.
