Delhi summer and winter

Climate of Delhi is very special with its scorching summer and chilly winter. Delhi has got Himalayas towards its North. The proximity of the Himalayas influences the climate of Delhi very much. Delhi winter starts from November, though winter becomes intense by December. Delhi summer starts by April last week and closes by August last week. Delhi people prefer winter compared to summer for they can cover up winter with proper dressings.

Delhi winter

Winter starts in Delhi by November second week. Winter is in the peak stage between December mid and January mid. Winter does extend till the end of February. Delhi inhabitants have to use winter dresses for November, December, January and February. Cold wind from the Himalayas makes Delhi winter extremely chilly. January is a difficult month as winter becomes severe during this month.

My experiences in Delhi winter

Delhi winter surprised me in several ways. When I thought about Delhi winter I knew nothing more than a chilly weather and a foggy morning. The real experience was however different. Can you imagine your food getting frozen to ice just few minutes after it is removed from fire? You have to heat your food every time you eat. You have loads of extra jobs if you happen to experience Delhi winter. Right from the beginning of winter, water will be chilly so that you can never avoid using a geyser. In the peak months of winter water will be almost frozen that dish washing and other cleaning works would be difficult. Natives of Delhi are somewhat comfortable with these experiences. However South Indians and others who are placed here would be bewildered at this terrible winter experiences.

I had a tough time caring for my little one during winter. Making child wear sweaters, thermal wear, socks and winter cap is not easy. Infants urinate so often in cold climate. Frequent changing of napkins and heavy dressings makes children frustrated. Parents have a tough time protecting children from getting affected by winter. The positive part is that diseases and viral infections are at bay during winter compared to summer. Even though it is icy cold children rarely get cold infections and fever. Giving proper care, adequate dressings and appropriate body-warming food would help children and adults equally.

A comparison of Delhi summer and Chennai summer – Delhi, a better place to live compared to Chennai

I would call Delhi summer better than the summer experiences by South Indian cities like Chennai. In South India summer starts right from February and peaks during April and May. Places like Chennai have an extended summer that would continue till September. Chennai is caught with summer except for December and January. Chennai summer is merciless taking residents to extreme trouble through a major portion of the year. Delhi winter however lasts for only four months. Even though Delhi winter is also severe, the summer duration is reduced. Apart from that Chennai weather includes high moisture levels in the atmosphere. The high humidity levels aggravate sweating, which makes life difficult even inside the houses. High humidity levels also prevent Chennai inhabitants from using an air cooler. Delhi however with its less humid atmosphere can rely on air cooler for majority of the summer months. When an Air Conditioner becomes the only option for the killing Chennai Summer, Delhi people can manage with an air cooler in most of the summer months. This is a matter of solace for common people as they can afford an air cooler and manage the summer. I would call Delhi summer better than Chennai summer as Delhi summer closes is of short duration and ends by August last week. Chennai summer goes through different transitions including ‘kathiri’ the days of agninakshatra, or the burning sun. Summer is unbearable in Chennai for it would last till November. Delhi summer is manageable for people who are inside houses. Going outdoor would be difficult. Chennai summer is equally difficult for indoor and outdoor people. Delhi summer is notorious for the heat wind or heat wave. These winds are however for a brief period.

Delhi monsoon

Monsoon arrival is unpredictable in Delhi. It happens somewhere between June and September.Delhi monsoon comes surprising the summer months, bringing a big relief from summer heat. The heat wind would disappear by the arrival of the monsoon. Even though monsoon is late in Delhi, it takes the city to a pleasant climate.

The pleasant months of Delhi

The best thing about Delhi climate is that Delhi gets five months of pleasant climate. February, March, April, September, October and November give pleasant days to Delhi. Tourists can visit Delhi during these months.
