Destin Commons Florida Mall Review

Updated on June 30, 2010

Destin Commons

While in Florida, most people don't want to go shopping. Instead, people tend to want to go to the beach, lay out on the sands, swim in the ocean, eat fresh seafood, and maybe play a few rounds of putt putt, but there are a some people who have to check out the local malls.

I'm not a mall person, but when you go on vacation with shoppers, one must be a shopper. A few hour event turned into an all day extravaganza. We drove from Panama City, Florida, to Destin, which isn't too bad of a drive, but then we had to check out the malls. Although, I'm not the biggest mall person, I'd much rather walk around an outdoor strip mall than a traditional indoor mall.

Now, I've been to Destin Commons before, in the past, and for a mall that has been open since 2003, it's still in good standings. The mall hasn't been overly trashed or torn apart like a lot of malls tend to do after a years of wear and tear from shoppers and tourists.

The mall is still a great place to take shop and enjoy the environment, no matter your age or shopping style. The outdoor mall reflects current trends and styles with loads of updated and fun stores to check out.

Check Out The Mall

Mind you, this is completely coming from a non-shopper...

If you're in the area, I would recommend taking a few hours away from the beach, and walking around Destin Commons.

Even if you don't think that any of the stores truly interest you, it's worth the few hours to just walk around and experience the personalities that walk around the outdoor mall.

Destin Commons is definitely Northwest Florida's premier outdoor mall. It has plenty of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment available. Most of the stores are fashion-oriented with clothes featuring all the newest trends and styles, which may or may not suit your fancy, but it's different and worth the look around.

Changes in the Mall

The overall mall has a three phase expansion plan, so even if you've been to the mall once, you'll be in for a surprise the next time you're in Florida.

  1. March 2008- Opened the West Tower, a six level parking garage, which included an additional 841 parking slots.
  2. 125-key hotel that is nationally-branded upscale boutique; 150,000 sq. ft. of additional retail space; 4 nationally recognized restaurants.
  3. 300,000 sq. ft. of additional retail space and a 250 key nationally branded all-suite 4 star resort; golf course; and a business conference center
