Welcome and Experience our Family RV Camping Adventures in Canada

Our 4 weeks RV Camping tour in East Canada was one of our wonderful and unforgetable vacation we experienced. It was in the year 2006, my daughter was 13 years old and my son 9. My husband and i was on our 40's.

The preparation of our RV Tour was made a few months before starting up. We did made a one week trial tour in parts of Europe to get to know how we feel and experience living in a Camper. By doing so, we evaluated how we sleep, eat, going through the daily routine, visiting many places and checking in for overnight stay in different camping sites. How to manage the maintenance of an RV and be aware of the safety measures are very important.

Preparation Checklist of Our RV Camping Tour

Booking an RV

It needs a few months preparation before we started our RV Camping Tour. It was springtime we booked it in a German RV Agency in which we were able to select which RV type that matches our family size. We have chosen the American Cruise with one sleeping room, an alcove bed for 2, one big sofabed, dining area, a hot and cold shower cabin, separate toilet, comfortable kitchen with oven, microwave and most important is the RV's own electric generator

One can also book an RV upon arrival in Toronto but we prefer to arrange it before our departure so we would not waste much time for booking arrangement.

Books and Maps about East Canada RV Guide

We bought a book about East Canada Tour Country and road maps. American Cruise offers an RV Camping Guide, informations about the safety and maintenance equipments needed for our RV tour. A list of which places to visit in a day or two, whole 4 weeks plan and making a sketch on the road map is very helpful.

Children Preparation

We discuss the whole RV plan with our children, asking them which places they wish to visit, their expectations and ideas. A good camera they could use to make shots so they could take pictures of their own interest. My daughter has taken her laptop to load some pictures from the digital camera when it is full. It is important to have more camera batteries and the cable to load the battery, be sure not to forget all cables for handy, mp3 ploayer and the right plug. About 4 good dvd films for the family ones a week to watch at the evening, when we take our free relaxing day or when the weather is too bad to take an excursion. Some family's favorite games like playing cards, monopoly, hotel, scrable etc.

Family Insurance and Travel Security

We have always private liability insurance, sickness, accident, cancellation, legal protection insurances. We have some Swiss and Canadian cash money and credit cards which are accepted everywhere.

Home Maintenace

An italian man, a good friend nearby has taken care of our house, garden, plants, our children's pets, a rabit and 3 guinea pigs. He managed to empty our post box and got our handy number to contact us in case of emergency. We had his handy number too! aside from that my sister in the other town knows how long is our vacation.

Clothes and Emergency Self Medicines

Summer light clothes are ideal for the month of July in Canada. Very comfortable walking shoes, evening shoes for dinner in restaurants or for special occasions. It is advisable to bring sweaters for some cold rainy days and in some colder places in Canada. We have some analgetics and antipyretics tablets, anti diarhrea, antihistamine pills, anti UV Sun cremes, wund dressing and bandages and other necessary items in our emergency medicine kit.

Ready to Take Off - Toronto Arrival

We checked in our loggage the night before departure in Bern flight baggage station. The next day we took the train from Bern direct to Zurich airport. The flight from Zurich to Toronto was about 8 1/2 hours.

July 7, 2006 - We arrived at 21:00 p.m. in Toronto International Airport and my sister who lives in Toronto welcomed and met us in the airport. We stayed overnight in Best Western Hotel which was included in our RV reservation services.

My Daughter`s Travel Diary - Where to Go in Canada

Saturday, July 8 - Our overnight stay in the hotel was relaxing. After taking a complete delicious breakfast, my sister came to join with us on our tour. Ready to start the day full of excitement we were picked up with a Van from the Cruise Camper Canada on our way to Bolton to get our reserved RV. After buying some necessary food and household supplies we went for an overnight stay in Bonticreek Provinzial Campground. We spent our dinner in Oakville Mix Grill Restaurant.

Sunday, July 9 - Lunch in Rainforest Restaurant, viewing Niagarafalls, historical ride on the world`s famous Made of the Mist, a half hour tour with a birdseye view of the American and Canadian Horse Falls. One must have a raincoat or secure it at the boat station. It was a thrill when we past the American Falls heading into the basin of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls one would surely get wet. We spent a night in KOA Niagara Falls Campground, had grill meat, green salad with potato for supper.

Monday, July 10 - Unluckily we were not contented of the RV we got because it was an old one with many finishing defects that we returned to Bolton to change for a better one as compromised the first day for another RV to arrive. We lost a day for that but it is important to get another RV to met our expectations having 4 weeks ahead of us to travel. The children wished to eat dinner in Mcdonalds. We stayed overnight in Darlington Campground, Oshawa, bought a big family bowl of Kentucky Chicken on our way eating and relaxing in the Campground. We grilled Marschmallows in the Camping fire as a dessert.

The rest days of our trip were spent in Cape Breton Highland national Parks, enjoying the beautiful sceneries of nature for 3 days. On our way back we met a very cute little Bär crossing the street and when he saw us he immediately secured himself hiding on a big tree observing us as we admire him.

We continued our journey making a stop over to interesting places, to St. John, Maine U.S.A. Banor, Newport, Skowhegan, Firmington and lots of places where we spent for another 3 days.

We also went to Montreal, visited beautiful places and some children`s park attraction. After 2 nights stay, we left for Toronto where we again met my sister stayed in a Campground for few days making a city tour before flying back to Switzerland.

Toronto is a nice city to go shopping and taste Canadian specialities and other international dishes with excellent restaurants.

So this was the end of our marvelous East Canada RV Tour Adventures.
