Eiffel Tower History and Gifts

Cheryl likes variety. These are some topics that didn't quite fit into other categories that Cheryl has written about.

Eiffel Tower, a Wonder of the World

I had once gone to a meeting where they were having an impromptu discussion about the seven wonders of the world and why you should visit a particular one. I remember thinking that the Eiffel Tower should be included. Although initially built in recognition of the 1889 World's Fair in Paris France, the Eiffel Tower has still remains, and has become an icon throughout the world.

Eiffel Tower History - Eiffel Tower Construction and a Ride Up the Eiffel Tower

Gustave Eiffel, an engineer from Paris, who also assisted with the structural framework for the Statue of Liberty, had founded a company that specialized in metal structural work. Two chief engineers of that company, Emile Nouguier and Maurice Koechlin, had an idea for a tall tower in 1884. Assembly began in 1887 and was completed 22 months later, culminating into the structure of the Eiffel Tower as we know it today.

Eiffel Tower Height

The height of the Eiffel tower is reported to be 300 meters, 324 including the flagpole.

There are three levels to the Eiffel Tower, the second and third being accessible by elevator. Able bodied visitors can take the 1,665 steps to the top level, or they can walk up to the second level and then ride the elevator.

Painting of the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is painted approximately every seven years.

The Eiffel tower, being made of iron, needs to be painted to help the structure endure. Painting, on average, occurs approximately every seven years. It has changed color six times so far, and has been red-brown, yellow ochre, and the current color is bronze. The 19th painting of the Eiffel tower commenced in March of 2009.

Eiffel Tower at Dusk Art Poster

I love the colors in this poster. The Eiffel Tower, with lights, looks stunning against the dusk sky of purplish pink and blue.

This poster is 24 by 36 inches. It is said to be easy to frame.

There are many renderings of the Eiffel Tower.

This unique mosaic style Eiffel Tower, was designed by CherylsArt at Zazzle. This design is also on mugs, posters, playing cards, tshirts, and more.

Build your own Eiffel Tower

The pieces are actually jigsaw style and they are made of plastic. People have said that it is quite sturdy.

Most said that it was pretty easy to put together, and some said that the corners were somewhat difficult.

May is known as the wettest month; be sure to take your umbrella.

The recommended times to visit Paris are the spring and fall months. Most tourists visit in July and August. July is usually known as the warmest month.

I love the tower. However when I was there I only managed to get to the middle level because of vertigo -I just couldn't make myself get into the lift of the last part! How beautiful Paris is! Thanks for all this info. Very interesting.

I have, and I've been to the top, admired it from the bottom and across the river. It's a as graceful as it is tall.

Beautiful lens! Reading it has me aching to go back to Paris...in March, it'll be 10 years since I went, and I've been wanting to go back since the moment I left. I have a pretty decent collection of Eiffel Tower items, many of them actually from France, and I saw a bunch of stuff on this lens that I'll be adding to my wish list!

Yes. It was unforgettable. We also saw the special lighting they set up in 1999 to count down the millennium. We like the tower so much, I made getting a cat (George) to the top as the big moment in my book, Travels w/ George: Paris, and my partner and illustrator posed George and his partner, Billy, looking out from the top for the cover. Great lens. Thanks.

We LOVE the Eiffel Tower. When we stayed in Paris, we stayed in a B&B right beside the Eiffel Tower. When we threw open the beautiful french doors the tower was beside us -- there were no buildings between us and the tower. It was amazing!

I wasn't going to go, too touristy, but it was worth waiting in the lines.

A great time to do it is about an hour before sun down, you get to see Paris from the tower in the daylight, twilight and then the lights at night! Like three visits in one.
