The coastline is really one endless beautiful beach, stretching from one end of Maharashtra to the other.
A visit to the sea forts of Maharashtra inevitable includes its lovely beaches. The long Konkani coastline, the land Sage Parasurama, is dotted with picturesque white sands set against tall black rocks, swaying palms, the still blue of the sea, deep creeks and sleepy village with their narrow winding lanes and shady trees.
All this and more characterize the lovely coastal area. Murud, with the overlooking palace of the former Nawabs of Janjira, Malvan and Harni with their sun-kissed beaches, Alibag made famous by the Maratha admiral, Angre, picturesque Kihim, Ratnagiri, Vengurla and Ganapatipule with their white sands, Dahanuwith its long ach are among the many pretty spots of coastal Maharashtra. Even this is scratching the surface. The coastline is really one endless beautiful beach, stretching from one end of Maharashtra to the other.
For those who are not lured by the sun and the sea, Maharashtra provides a variety of small hill stations. Mahabaleswara and Lonavla-Khandala are well known. But one of the most beautiful is Matheran, four hours from Mumbai (Bombay). Approached by a tiny hill train, this little jewel of serenity offers innumerable long walks and panoramic views.
The fortified town of Panhala, with its legendary origin attributed to sage Parasurama, is a hill resort known for its salubrious climate. Maharashtra, near Ellora, is a beautiful plateau in Maharashtra. Chikalda in Vidrbha, with its thick forests, picturesque thatched –roof cottage, chasms and wooded ravines, lakes and waterfalls, is one of the most enticing of hill stations.
