Facts about Delhi to Katra Volvo bus service
When you are planning a long distance travel, you should plan it well. Recently, I visited Vaishno Devi for the first time in my life. My friends decided to go by Volvo Deluxe bus and we booked our tickets through MakeMyTrip. We got tickets for Heera Himachal Holiday's Volvo(aka Rana Motors). I had searched for some reviews on internet before booking the tickets but unfortunately couldn't find enough reviews (this is the reason I am writing this article).
The bus was scheduled to start at 7:00 PM. Hence we reached boarding point one hour before, keeping in mind the traffic and other possible delays. The buses arrived at the boarding point at nearly 7:15 PM. There were three buses going to Katra. We had booked our seats in Semi-Sleeper bus. The condition of the bus was neither too good nor too bad. Personally, I was not impressed much by the quality of the bus. After we got seated, the environment inside the bus became suffocating. It was winter, so the heaters were running but enviroment was not comfortable at all. I hoped, it will be a little comfortable when the bus start. The bus started at 9:00 PM and it took nearly 2 hours to exit Delhi. It was 11:00 PM and we didn't have any dinner. Hunger was increasing, and we know we will have to wait for another 2 to 3 hours for dinner as the bus would stop near Peepli (Kurukshetra).
So after waiting for such a long time, the bus finally stopped at a Dhabbha. This was the worst part of any journey in my life. We were hungry so we quickly ordered some food. The food was served and I was very confused whether to eat such a crap food or not. But I had to surrender before my hunger, and I swallowed few bites. The Rotis ( Chapaati, Fulka) seems to made of concrete flour. Even animals will not prefer to eat them happily. So poor quality and guess what we got the bill which made me feel like I just hand my dinner in a 5 Star hotel. We had to pay Rs 480 for two Daal and 5-6 Rotis. I regularly eat outside as I live away from home. Even the best quality food doesn't cost that much for three people. These people are charging at their own will and above that they are not even providing average quality of food (expecting good quality is an imaginary thought at such places). These dhaba walas give some commission to the Bus drivers for stopping by. And we the consumer are helpless as there is no other option available nearby these dhaabas.
So be aware of these facts and try to take your food along with you, if you are planning to go by these buses. Apart from that, the behavior of Bus driver and conductor is very in-human (They prove it when they stop the bus at such places.) They didn't even allow you to urinate on the way. And fighting with these non-sense people is such a waste of time, effort and self-respect. So guys please be careful while planning your journey.
God did help us on our return journey as we got train tickets by paying a little extra then normal fare. Still the bus charges were far more than train, and our return journey was much more comfortable in train.
