Fall Activities for the Family in Bloomington, Indiana
Most may think of Bloomington as a college town with not a whole lot to offer other than parties, students, and an occasional night out on the town. What many people don't know is there is more than just students coming back in the fall. There can be fun for the entire family to enjoy the scenery and be entertained.
For all of you adults that are at least 21. Try heading to Oliver Winery. Located just off highway 37 they offer tons of different types of locally made wines. In the fall, they even offer delicious hard ciders. Once you pick buy your favorite bottle head on out and enjoy the beautiful scenery and decor they have to offer. If you choose to go here you couldn't have picked a better place to relax or indulge in a great conversation. You wont be disappointed!
Indiana Balloon Festival
This festival is usually held during the beginning of September. This is really a great time for the entire family. There are typically 15+ balloons, a car show, food and vendors, live music, and SO much more! The location of this event is held at the Monroe county fairgrounds on airport road.
Blue Spring Caverns
Although, this is located in Lawrence county, not Monroe, Blue Spring Caverns is still a beautiful nearby place to take your family on an adventure. The offer hour long boat tours through the cave where the tour guides will give you all the history! Along the way you'll get to see really rare blind cavefish and crayfish. You'll want to get there before its over the stop giving the tours on October 31st. Adult admissions are 16$ and children 15 and under are 9$.
Who doesn't love to shop? The B-town Store is located on Walnut street inside the visitors center. This would be great place to start to get ideas for your trip and they have something for everyone (tourist and locals). You name it, they got it. Locally made soaps, the best homemade granola, t-shirts, mugs, tumblers, and more! You'll be missing out if you don't check it out! There only open from 8:30 to 5 so get in there while you can!
Bloomington Community Orchard
Located on Highland Ave. Bloomington Orchard is publicly owned and and ran strictly off volunteers. They serve the community by growing fruit and offering educational opportunities. They offer a fun fall gathering in the beginning of October called cider fest! As far as i can tell there is no admission to go to they event they just ask you bring a dish for the potluck that is offered to everyone!
Monroe Fall Festival
This one is located in Ellsttsville. Just outside of Bloomington (still in Monroe county). Take the whole family to this free event. They offer live music, delicious festival food, local vendors, and fun activities for the kids to do.
