Summer Weekends

Being in nature is one of the best things life can offer. As a family we can often struggle to find time to spend together because of our busy lives, but we should take time. We live in Wisconsin, which means we really take advantage of the warm months here, and we are out in nature just about every weekend! Camping, hiking, or maybe at a beach if we can find one.

Last summer (2017), we started taking weekend trips around WI, just little day trips. We were determined to visit our state parks, and find some waterfalls. I am not sure what it is about waterfalls, but for some reason we all are in love with waterfalls.

Our visit adventure in visiting a waterfall was a fail, we hiked 1.5 miles in the Smoky Mountains but the water levels were too low, so the waterfall was very small. But we never gave up hope and found some small ones close to home. We plan to continue our adventures this summer as well. (If we ever have a summer! April 14th and we are getting 20 inches of snow! already have 10 inches down! Beautiful spring we are having).

When we first started looking into our state parks, we were shocked to find out some of these beautiful parks were only 10 - 15 minutes away from our home. We just never noticed these things before, how? Because we never paid attention. Some were further away, but we planned those into trips we when were closer to those parks, and it worked out great. Our children loved the memories and we had a great time together. It was a great way to slow down our busy lives, and bring us all together. It created memories and teaching moments for all of us.

Goodman Park

Goodman Park

Goodman Park is located in Marinette County, with the Peshtigo river flowing through the park. The park has 15 cabins that are available for overnight rental. (This is something I have always wanted to try!) They also have a log cabin that can be rented for the day, or a couple hours, would be nice for a meeting or maybe a family reunion! It's located right by the river too! A lot of trout fishing can be done there. They do have a nice little hiking trail with some little waterfalls opening as well. It's a very beautiful location to bring the family to just sit and relax.

Fonferek Glen

Fonferek Glen

Fonferek Glen is a 30 foot waterfall, located in Brown County. A lot of people climb down by it, but it's a very steep climb and not recommended. There is not many hiking trails here, but it was so close to home and we all still really enjoyed seeing this waterfall.

Wequiock Falls

Wequiock Falls

This is a very small park, located in Brown County. The park has a nice path leading to the waterfall. The kids loved this one because the path actually allows you to walk behind the waterfall. But be careful because it can be slippery! There are some picnic tables and restrooms to enjoy a nice little lunch!

Bayshore

Bayshore

Bayshore, is located in Brown County. The hiking trails here are beautiful, the colors are so vivid. I couldn't believe how green everything was when we went through the hiking trails. They also have a beach (although, it did smell like dead fish when we went, so we did not swim). Bayshore has a camping site available for renting out as well. There is a shelter that can be rented for birthdays, showers, reunions, and more.

The kids were in love with the awesome playground there, shaped like a pirate ship boat! This was definitely a park we would like to revisit some day. Not to mention there is an area you can lunch a real boat and take it out on the water too.

Address

5637 Sturgeon Bay Road (Highway 57), New Franken WI 54229

I love Wisconsin! I'll definitely have to save this for next time I visit.
