Family skiing resorts

Updated on April 25, 2011

Montgenevre is on the French/Italian border and is located at 1860m and is an ideal location for a family skiing holiday.

Its altitude is such that the skiing conditions are excellent for a long season starting early in December and running until late April.

The ski resort is one of France's oldest resorts and it maintains its charm particularly since a tunnel was built to take through traffic under the resort and returned the charm and carm to the resort.

The ski area is large and provides access to the Milky Way which means there is up to 400km of skiing available from Montgenever as a base. The ski areas in front of the resort are perfect for beginners and intermediates and the layout of the resort is great for access to ski school and, for later in the day, the best areas for sledging and toboganning.

New for winter 2010/11 is the Monty express luge - this is great fun for the whole family and, although you get a free go with your lift pass, I bet you waill want to buy at least another go....if not two - its great.

The resort has benefitted from a lot of investment of late and their are a range of new apartments and hotels in the area.

However, some of the best value options remain catered chalets.

A range of options can be found at

I've just come back from Montgenevre and had a great week - the children loved the resort and are already asking to go back. They loved the skiing and the luge and raved about the thermal baths down in the neighbouring resort of Serre Chevalier. A great place for a family holiday!
