Free Things To Do In San Diego County - Mission Beach and Bay

Updated on June 8, 2012

Mission Beach is basically a milder continuation of Pacific Beach, with boardwalk and all. However halfway between it's northern and southern ends lies family-friendly Belmont Park. A walk through the park is free, but the rollercoaster rides and food joints, although cheap, are not. If you cross the main drag from Belmont Park, you will find yourself at Mission Bay. If you head northward around the portion of the bay called Sail Bay on the Bayside Walk, you can enjoy viewing several miles of beautiful, one-of-a-kind vacation properties. At the intersection with Fanuel Street is a popular playground with perhaps one of the most beautiful views of the bay. The path continues around Crown Point and then traces Fiesta Bay, along which there are more beach and picnic areas, bathrooms and another playground. In the middle of the bay is Vacation Isle, home to the Model Yacht Pond, where you can navigate your remote-controlled model boat, or watch others with theirs. Fiesta Island is also in the middle of the bay, and offers plenty of green grass (and yet another playground) from which to watch the action in the bay.
