Free Things To Do In San Diego County - Pacific Beach

Updated on June 8, 2012

The northernmost beach in this neighborhood, Tourmaline Surfing Park, is actually under the radar, and makes for a good beginner surfing, windsurfing or kiteboarding spot. Just to the south is the "family-friendly" part of Pacific Beach. However, as you continue southward, you will encounter the quintessential twenty-something Southern California party scene. The action begins near Crystal Pier, and proceeds southward along the wide, sandy beach lined with a very busy boardwalk by which beer, smoke, music and bikinis are transported pretty much any time of the day and year. If you are moving southward from La Jolla a few blocks inland route, you will find Kate Sessions Park at the corner of Beryl and Lamont Streets. This park has one of the most beautiful and expansive views in the entire city. On the 4th of July, you can see fireworks from seven different locations, all for free.
