Free Things to do in Cornwall: Falmouth Art Gallery
There Aren't a lot of Free Activities in Cornwall
Because it is such a popular tourist destination, there are not that many things to do for free in Cornwall. Even the areas of historical and natural interest charge quite a bit of money to see them because they need to be maintained.
So needless to say, when you live here, finding something to do for free is like finding gold.
Falmouth is a Leading art Collector
Falmouth is an incredibly busy and popular place in Cornwall, it has a working harbour, some great shops and a beautiful beach. It also has a brilliant and ever changing art gallery.
Falmouth Art Gallery is totally free to enter and is open from Monday to Saturday inclusive, between 10am and 5pm. It is home to some of the leading art collections in all of the Southwest of England.
Do you like visiting art galleries?
New and Classic Artists
It features new and local artists as well as Victorian artists and some of the old masters. The art is lovingly displayed and the friendly and helpful staff are more than happy to give you some more information should you need it.
You Could Spend Hours in Falmouth
Pictures are normally allowed, but any work that they do not want you to photograph is clearly marked.
It is not a huge gallery, but it is so easy to get lost in some of the incredible work that you could easily spend hours there just gazing and the paintings and if you are anything like me, being jealous of the artist's talent.
Kids Are Welcome
Kids can even create their own art whilst you are there, they have a very well stocked young artists table and some of the work is quite proudly displayed. It's not just for young artists really, I have seen a few adults sat at the little tables!
Falmouth Art Gallery Community Projects
The art on the staircase when you enter the building is part of various community projects run by Falmouth Art Gallery, from groups like Age Concern and local schools. The staircase is steep, but for those with limited mobility, there is a lift at the side of the entrance to the building.
Whilst you are there, why not have a look in the beautiful Famouth library, it is at the bottom of the stairs before you go to the art gallery.
If you are in need of some culture, Falmouth Art gallery will not disappoint!
