Gorilla Tracking in Uganda and Wildlife Safari

Day 01: Arrive and depart Murchison falls

Meet and greet at Entebbe International Airport by our safari driver/ Guide who will warmly welcome you and brief you about your safari. And set off towards Masindi then you drive off before Masindi to Rhino Sanctuary. You relax at the site take lunch after go tracking it can take 3-4 hours before you proceed for dinner and overnight at New Court View Hotel.

Day 02: Chimpanzee trekking

After the morning breakfast Murchison Falls National Park. Stop at Kaniyo Pabid for Chimpanzee tracking in the forest, expect a lot of primates like the Black and White colobus monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, Baboons and came back for lunch. Then drive to the magnificent falls so wondrous! Marvel at the robust Nile as it farfetched into a seven-meter abyss to rumble 45 meters below. Check the series of cascades forms, which can viewed at different points up to the culmination.

Dinner and overnight at Paraa safari lodge or Red Chilli rest Camp.

Day 03: Game drive and launch cruise

Early morning breakfast and set off for a half-day game drive on the northern bank of River Nile in search of Rothschild Giraffe, Elephants, Jackson Hartebeest, Lions, Waterbuck and many more, with a variety of Savannah woodland birds. Take lunch and go for the Lunch Cruise along the Victoria Nile. Expect pods of Hippos, and Crocodiles along the River banks as you take this ride to the bottom of the falls.

Dinner and overnight at Nile Safari Lodge or Red Chilli rest Camp.

DAY 4: Drive to Fortportal.

After breakfast. Head to Fort Portal, the area where Semliki National Park and Kibale Forest National Park are situated. This drive is approximately 9 hours drive to get to Fort Portal which lies in the shadow of the enchanted Mountains of the Moon.

Dinner and overnight at Tooro Resort.

Day 05: Visit Pygmy villages

After breakfast proceed to Semliki National Park, for the crown and Hot Springs. This will be the day in the Pygmy villages located near the Ituri Rainforest. The visit to the pygmy is an interesting cultural experience. Packed lunch for you will do best while you experience the True Africa! Later in the afternoon transfer to Kibale National Park in time for dinner and overnight at Primates Lodge or Ndali lodge.

Day 06: chimpanzee trekking

Wake up early morning for breakfast and report to Kanyanchu Tourist Centre where the chimpanzee tracking begins from. Set out in the forest in search for Man’s closest animal brothers the endangered chimpanzee! Here chances of viewing the chimps are over 90% but its not a guarantee and this will take you 4 to 8 hours. Other primates in this forest that you will encounter are the threatened Red colobus monkey, the rare L’Hoest’s monkeys, the red tailed monkeys, Blue monkey, Grey Cheeked mangabeys, velvet and many others not leaving out Butterflies. Return for lunch and in the afternoon, a visit to Bigodi Swamp eco-tourism site is amazing, as we shall encounter rare and Beautiful flora and fauna.

Overnight at Primates Lodge or Ndali lodge.

Day 07: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and visit Katwe salt mines.

Morning breakfast, then proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range and Savanna grasslands for most of the journey. A game drive en-route will expose you to a wide range of animals including; antelopes, elephants, buffaloes, Hyenas, bushbucks, the comical warthogs, the elusive leopards and if you are lucky the lions plus a wide range of bird species. Have lunch at the lodge and relax in the afternoon you take a visit to the crater region for sight seeing. Then go to Katwe salts mines one of the Crater Lake in the park and see how salt is traditionally mined.

Dinner and over night at Jacana Safari Lodge, Mweya safari Lodge or Mweya Hostel.

Day 08: Morning game drive and launch cruise

Early morning game drive provide excellent opportunities to see Leopards, Lions, Giant Forest Hogs, Cape Buffaloes, Elephants, Defassa Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs and Bushbucks and many more. Drive back for lunch as you get prepared for a unique 2-hours launch cruise along the kazinga channel. Along this channel you see a highest concentration of Hippos and many animals may be seen drinking at the water’s edge. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing, ideal for the Uganda safari. The prolific bird life is colorful and stupendous with well over 550 resident species.

Dinner and overnight Jacana Safari Lodge or Mweya Hostel.

Day 09: Depart for Bwindi

Morning breakfast, and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest via Ishasha sector. The Ishasha sector is famous for its tree climbing Lions. Along the road animals such as the waterbucks, elephant, antelopes, buffalo, Kobs, can be seen along the road. We go for a game drive in Ishasha and proceed to Bwindi, are the Bird watchers heaven! It holds 348 species of birds and supports 24 of 26 Albertine Rift Endemics that occur in Uganda; and seven red data book species. Once continuous with the forest of Virunga Volcanoes (Dian Fossey’s stomping ground), Bwindi is now an ecological island, surrounded by cultivation on the rich volcanic soil.

Dinner and overnight at Kitandara camp, Buhoma homestead, Engagi Lodge or Buhoma community Rest camp.

Day 10: Mountain Gorilla trekking

You relatively rise early for hearty breakfast to give you energy needed for gorilla tracking. Report to the ranger station at 08.00hrs where the guide will take you through the forest, slashing at the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track gorillas. This trek can take from 4 to10 hrs so a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. You sit in the forest among the gorillas listening to them grumble at each other and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male, the silverback. It is amazing to think that there are only 650 or so of these creatures left in the world!

Return to your Lodging for dinner and Overnight.

.Day 11: Depart to Rwanda

After breakfast leave for Rwanda this drive will take you through Uganda rolling green hills, also known as the Switzerland of Uganda. This drive will even head higher to where you can see the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo. Stop for lunch in Kisoro town and drive to the Uganda-Rwanda border.

Dinner and overnight at Kinigi Guest House or Gorilla Nest lodge.

Day 12: gorilla trekking and drive to Bunyonyi

Early morning breakfast you proceed for briefing before the gorilla trekking enter the Gorilla Sanctuary of Parc National des Volcans, the rain tropical forest covering the surrounding virunga volcanoes. The trekking is a demanding but rewarding experience. Ensure that you have sturdy pair of walking shoes, enough water and packed lunch. The time spent in the forest depends on the movements of the Gorillas in their natural environments. After trekking we proceed to Lake Bunyonyi dinner and overnight at Arcadia Cottages or Bunyonyi over land camp.

Day 13: tour to the many islands and canoe

Take breakfast and have a walk to the island villages to see the real African village life. This mountain tarn is surrounded by its terraced hills; enjoy Bilharzia free swimming, dug out canoeing, sunbathing, hilly walks or mountain bike riding and craw fishing dinner and overnight at Arcadia Cottages or Bunyonyi over land camp.

Day 14: Depart to Lake Mburo National Park and afternoon game drive

After your morning breakfast, we drive to Lake Mburo National Park, it’s a Beautiful and situated in rolling hills and open grassy valleys, this lovely landscape is complemented by Lake Mburo and four smaller lakes, beautiful and tranquil surroundings where you’ll see Impalas, Eland, Zebras, Waterbucks, Klipspringer and the rare Topis, Buffalo and Hippos. In the air look out for Starling, Bee eaters, Crowned crane, and more exotic birds like Blue Naped Coucal, Bare faced Go away Bird, Nubian Woodpecker and many others. Lunch en-rout

In the afternoon we go for a game drive in search of Zebra, Impala, Eland, Topi, Oribi, cape Buffalos, and if you are luck Roan antelopes, Leopards, Hyenas and Jackals dinner and overnight at Mantana Tented Camp or Rwonyo camp.

Day 15: nature walk and boat trip

After morning breakfast, we go for self-guided nature trails, Bird watchers will enjoy more than 250 species of birds found in Lake Mburo including Papyrus Gonoleks, Brown-faced lapwings, Caruthers’s Cisticolas, and the extraordinary White winged Warbler and Bare-faced Go-away bird. You return for lunch.

In the afternoon we go for the boat trip on Lake Mburo and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 16; Depart for Ssese Islands

After breakfast we transfer Ssese Islands, the 84 lush equatorial Ssese islands from worlds of their own this extraordinary lake. Forest teeming with wildlife, delightful empty beaches, friendly islanders and peaceful environment provide an unique and fascinating opportunity for fishing, walking, boating, bird watching or simply enjoying beautiful unusual and un spoilt surroundings. You’ll be able to see velvet monkeys and grey parrots by the forest waterfalls, kingfishers, herons and fish eagles. Lunch en-route and dinner and overnight at Mirembe Resort Beach.

Day 17; Day visits to the islands

After morning breakfast we set off for the boat ride on Lake Victoria and visit other islands, and bird watching this island is a paradise with all his eagles, hammerheads, hornbills, Turacos, flycatcher, fish eagle and colorful butterflies, on the boat ride you go with packed lunch.

Dinner and overnight at Mirembe Resort Beach.

Day 18: Ssese- Kampala –Jinja

Early morning breakfast at 06.30 am and proceed to meet with the ferry to Entebbe. Then we continue to Kampala for lunch, and then take off to Jinja. Check in at your Hotel and relax.

Dinner and overnight at Jinja Nile Resort or Kingfisher Hotel.

Day 19: Whole City tour to Jinja or Rafting

After breakfast the Jinja city tour and visit Source of the River Nile, Bujagali Falls for a boat, Traditional dances, crafts and same fishing villages. Optional activity is rafting for those who will opt for it at your own cost.

Dinner and overnight at Jinja Nile Resort or King fisher Hotel.

Day 20: Jinja – Mt Elgon National park

Depart for Sipi falls on the slopes of Mt Elgon at 8.00am. Check in to your hotel. In the afternoon go for an optional walk through the local Sabinyi shambas and see how the locals live together with their culture.

Dinner and overnight at budget-Crow’s Nest bed only, midrange-Lacam Lodge.

Day 21: Hike Elgon and hike bottom of sipi falls.

After an early breakfast you will go for a hike to the Mt Elgon forest exploration center for guided walks. In the afternoon you will take a walk to the bottom of the falls and there have a picnic lunch. Enjoy the serene atmosphere at the falls returning for dinner and overnight at budget-Crow’s Nest bed only, midrange-Lacam Lodge.

Day 22: Drive to Kampala

Depart Sipi after breakfast with your packed lunch for Kampala arriving in the evening. End of safari.
