Hagley Park In Christchurch, New Zealand

Updated on August 20, 2014

Pretty Park

We have been exploring Hagley Park in the center of Christchurch each day a bit more and more. We have two bikes in our tiny garage that my husband, Monte had us take a ride early Saturday morning, Aug. 16th over to the park. After crossing the roads with busy traffic and getting into the park, it was a snap!

It was so fun to get further into the park with the bicycles. We watched the birds and listened to them. There are small lakes everywhere and a great clean river that ducks are abundant in. What is amazing to me is the green grass and things that are in bloom already. Some trees and flowers are dormant, but quite a few are full on in bloom. There are the prettiest trees with rose-like blooms all over them. We ventured over to the Botanical Garden Section where we found huge greenhouses that weren't open yet, but open gardens that were quite lovely. One of my favorites was the Rose Gardens. They were not in bloom yet, but look quite promising in the next few months. I'm going to love living here with all of the garden possibilities!

Our kids have enjoyed the playground at the park and feeding the birds here. What a gem to be treasured in Christchurch. We can't wait for the Punting Boats to begin rowing down the river. We'll have a taste of Italy!
