The Eighth Gate to Hell

Leicester, Massachusetts. Home of the eighth gate to hell. Yeah, I don’t think a town wants to be known for having a gate to hell, but the rumor is that it resides here at a place called Spider Gate Cemetery. Now when you’ve got a place named that, you got to go check it out to see what it’s called that.

The real name is Friends Cemetery, but the front gates look like spider webs. When the sun rises in the morning, shadows cast over making it look like a giant spider web. It is owned by the Worcester-Pleasant Street Friends Meeting. The graves in this cemetery go as far back as the 1700’s. Bodies have been buried here as late as 2000.

The reason why it has the reputation as being the eighth gate to hell is because Spider Gate Cemetery has eight gates. If you go through all eight gates in this place, you’re suppose to be in hell. There’s word that a gate keeper stands by the first gate warning you about this. There was a witness that reported that he may have come in contact with the gate keeper. Him and his friends had permission to go into the cemetery. They were exploring it, and were getting impatient because no paranormal activity was happening. They then started saying how the place was a joke, when suddenly a man with his dog came out of nowhere asking them what they were doing. They told him they had permission from the family to go in, and the man said “No you don’t.” They started to leave and when they turned around to look back at the man, he was suddenly gone. According to the witness and where they were, he said there was no way he could’ve been gone within the time frame that it happened.

Besides the disturbing tale of the eighth gate to hel, Spider Gate Cemetery has quite a scary reputation. Satanic rituals and ceremonies have taken place here. There’s actually an alter in the middle of the cemetery. This is where the cult rituals are said to have taken place. Murders and suicides have also said to have taken place here. There’s a story of a young boy and it’s said that he hanged himself in the cemetery in the 1980’s. A girl that visited Spider Gate claimed that this boy made himself visible to her and her group of friends and started following them around. There is also stories of demonic entities roaming around the cemetery. Some people have said that they’ve seen demonic faces in the woods around Spider Gate. Finally, there’s a strip of grass that never grows.

An intriguing tale of this cemetery is the Legend of Marmaduke Earle’s grave. According to the locals, if you walk around Marmaduke’s grave at midnight ten times, and say “Marmaduke speak to me”, he’ll speak to you. In order for that to happen, you have to kneel down at this gravestone and lie your head on it. People who have done this say that they hear moans and groans, but they say that there are cows near by and that it could be them.

The eighth gate to hell has a lot to offer to paranormal investigators or anyone who is curious about the paranormal. Do you dare cross the entrance of Spider Gate Cemetery?

Another good one. I love old grave yards. They are always full of stories whether you see a ghost or not.
