Hilton Bonn - City centre riverside hotel

Updated on August 25, 2014

I used to stay in Hilton hotels for my business trips quite often and never really consider it as something for a family trip. We booked it at the end, forced the lack of options in high season. I must say that everything are decent, service is good, rooms are spacious and all are in-line with Hilton quality. On the down side I also clearly feel the coldness of chain hotels, where all is about money.

Hilton Bonn

If you are looking for a city tour in Bonn, this hotel fits perfectly. A stroll at the Rhine promenade, a shopping trip in the city or a relaxing museum tour, all are within 10 minutes distance from the Hilton Bonn. This was in particularly easy for us with our baby stroller. Parking at the hotel costs EUR26 per which is bit on the high side. We parked on the street at the corner and paid less than half of what the hotel asks.

Room Amenity

The 4 of us has booked a river view family room, with a sofa bed, a living room with dining area and a separate bedroom. We have in total of 3 televisions (!) and all toiletry items are available. Next to the usual tea making mini bar amenities, a Senseo coffee machine is present.

The hotel has a fully equipped gym and wellness area with long opening hours. Yet kids under 16 is not allowed to the swimming pool, which is a huge disappointment for us as this was not mentioned anywhere on the website.

Breakfast is not included in our booking and it costs EUR20 per person if you book in advance, or EUR25 per person if you choose to walk in. We had breakfast at a very nearby lovely local bakery, which is around 8 minutes walk from the hotel called ‘Voigt’. We had scrabbled eggs, pretzels, sandwiches, sweet pastries and 3 coffees altogether for the price of 1 person's breakfast at the hotel.

There is one unpleasant surprise though. Only when we arrived did we notice that there is no free wifi in our room. I’m not sure if it is the same for all room types but I’m sure we were having a more expensive room-type already. For a 24-hour wifi in-room access you’ll need to pay EUR20. There is free wifi at the lobby though.

Beethovenhalle Bonn

I would recommend couples and people on business trips or a weekend Bonn city getaway for this hotel but not families with young kids. Hilton Bonn offers everything in high Hilton standard, and of course, with Hilton price tag.
