Homewood Suites by Hilton in Lawrenceville Atlanta Hotel Review

Updated on July 30, 2011

Homewood Suites by Hilton

June 2010

I'm really finicky about what hotels I stay in, so I typically do a lot of research before making my final decision as to where to place my reservations. Well, this time I didn't, and I didn't realize that I had made the reservations without looking up the hotel until after the fact.

I had searched a nearby hotel, but the price was a few bucks more than I wanted to spend, so I opted for Homewood Suites. I made the reservations before really looking up the hotel or any reviews about it. I go lucky that my chances were with me. I made a good decision.

I have no complaints whatsoever with staying at this hotel. The room was great, breakfast awesome, location was perfect, and service was nice. Would I recommend this hotel to anyone? Of course!

For a two night stay, I did pay the most I've ever paid in Atlanta for a hotel, but it was definitely worth it for the trip. After taxes and everything was charged to the bill, the total was just over $200, which like I said was more than I'm used to, but the overall location and hotel was ideal, and there wasn't anything serious to complain about.

Homewood Suites Review

When trying to find a hotel near Discover Mills Mall, my honest-to-God first choice was the Hampton which is right next to Homewood suites, but after calling to get prices, their prices weren't quite as good as the Homewood Suites by Hilton. Even though it was just few bucks cheaper, I was a happy camper to change my mind, and the decision wasn't a bad one.

The hotel is in walking distance to the Discover Mills Mall, or shuttle if you have the shopper's package. It's about 10 to 15 minutes from the Mall of Georgia, and about 20 minutes from Perimeter Mall. If you're looking at doing some serious shopping, this is a great hotel with wonderful location.

When you walk in, the service was friendly. The lounge area was nice, and there were even computers set in the lobby.

We got to our room, which was bigger than I was expecting, and definitely plenty of room for more than just the two people who were staying. There was a door for the room next to us, so if we had more people, it would have been the perfect place to get a two room suite, where everyone would be right next to each other versus doors or floors a part.

I was quite impressed with the full sized refrigerator/freezer, which isn't often found in most hotels. Most of the time, the fridge is the mini, dorm-sized refrigerators. The room even included a few pots and pans, as well as some cups, plates, bowls, and silverware, which was definitely something I had not seen at many hotels (that aren't considered condos).

The shower and bathroom was a regular sized bathroom, not the teeny ones that you can barely turn around in, so definitely a plus. It was clean, and awesome is all I can say. Clean bathrooms in hotel rooms is something that is always a plus! Just watch out for loose articles of clothing around the toilet when you flush, as the toilet has super strength flushing abilities.

Now, for the complementary breakfast. Usually, this is where my complaints lie because this is where they skimp out. Even if the rooms are spotless, the breakfast may be slim. Granted, it's a free breakfast that the hotel doesn't have to offer, so anything is better than nothing, but here at the Homewood Suites by Hilton, the breakfast was awesome. You want to get there early, as it starts at 7am and ends at 10am, towards the last hour they don't refresh the food when it gets low. The breakfast includes scrambled eggs, waffles (that you make), grits, ceeral, muffins (my favorite part), sausage links, bacon, bagels, fruit, juice and milk.

My only complaint is a teeny one... Basically, there was complementary conditioner, face wash, hand soap, and lotion, but there wasn't any complementary shampoo.

If you're in Atlanta and want to stay around the Discover Mills mall, stay at the Homewood Suites by Hilton! For the price, whether you're staying just a few nights in Atlanta or a week or longer, The Homewood Suites is a great place to stay, and the breakfast is awesome.
