Background Information of Arizona

The capital of Arizona is Phoenix, which is also the largest city in Arizona. Arizona became a state on February 14, 1912 and is also referred to as the Valentine State. While Arizona is characterized by the warm climate, different cities in Arizona vary in temperature due to changing altitudes and mountains. Arizona is located in the Southwest and has a border with Mexico, which causes a lot of controversy regarding immigration. There are also many Native American tribes in Arizona and museums dedicated to preserving Native American history and the artifacts found in Arizona. For these reasons, Arizona has a deep rich history. The population of Arizona is about 6,500,000. If you have a child who is in high school, you can make your vacation a college tour as well, since the University of Arizona and Arizona State are in Arizona. If you like warm weather, come in the summer time. However, if you want to enjoy warmth but not burn, come in the wintertime as it is not very cold, depending on which part of Arizona you visit.

Places to See in Tucson, Arizona and Southern Arizona

Having lived in Tucson for almost 19 years, I feel that I am qualified to give you the best information you need to have a great trip. One of the most spectacular things about Tucson and Southern Arizona in the fact that it is in the Sonoran Desert. Because of this, there is magnificent cacti ranging from the famous Saguaro to the Prickly Pair, Ocotillo, and Teddy Bear Cholla. If you are interested in plants and desert wildlife, Tucson is the place to go because it has so much to offer. The Saguaro is becoming endangered and it is an incredible cactus that everyone should see in their lifetime. It is endemic to the Sonoran desert which means you need to come to Arizona to see it! Saguaro National Park provides the best scenery for cacti lovers as it has thousands of protected saguaros that stretch for miles on the vast desert land. It is a very popular tourist attraction. My boyfriend's parents live in Europe and Saguaro National Park was the sight they wanted to see most, and they loved it! Tucson has a lot of of mountain ranges which makes it a great place for hiking and horse back riding. There is nothing more beautiful than riding a horse in the desert while watching the warm Arizona sunsets. Sabino Canyon and Mount Lemon are great places to go hiking in Tucson. If you are interested in Desert Wildlife and enjoy tea, Tahono Chul Park is a great place to visit, especially during Springtime. Also, the Desert Museum provides great fun for those interested in Desert Animals and is a great place for children. There are also many ghost towns and Western themed towns that children may enjoy, with fake gun shows and Western fun! Tombstone is probably the most popular one in Tucson. If you are retired and are looking for a lazy vacation, Arizona has beautiful hotels with golf courses and spas that are very relaxing. Regardless of what you like to do, Tucson and Southern Arizona have a lot to offer to every tourist looking for a good time!

Places to See in Flagstaff and Northern Arizona

Flagstaff and Northern Arizona are the places to visit for the nature lovers who want to vacation in Arizona! Northern Arizona has the highest elevation in Arizona and for this reason, it is the only place where it snows in Arizona. During the summer time, Flagstaff and Northern Arizona are a lot cooler in temperature than places like Phoenix and Tucson where the temperature can reach up to 115 degrees on the hottest days! Flagstaff is a popular destination because it is about 80 miles from the Grand Canyon and is home to the famous Lowell Observatory. Flagstaff is also a popular spot for archeologists as it contains a majority of the Native American lands and artifacts found in Arizona. Flagstaff is in ponderosa pine forest and is a great place to hike, get fresh air, and ski when there is snow!

The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is probably the most popular tourist destination In Arizona. It is about 277 miles long and 18 miles wide, making is one of the largest canyons in the world. It is an incredible sight to see and a great place to hike. The Canyon gets millions of visitors each year and is a popular vacation spot for many international people. It became a national park in 1919 and has remained one of the most famous parks in the world. The Colorado River runs through the Grand Canyon and supplies Arizona with water. many tourists travel to the Grand Canyon to hike and raft on the river. The North Rim of the canyon has nice resorts and is for those tourists who are more interested in the scenery instead of taking the long and tedious hike into the canyon. If you want to take a tour of the Canyon, you need to schedule it a few moths in advance because there is a waiting list. Also, plan your time wisely when hiking the canyon because it can be very dangerous for those adventurous hikes who think they can get it all done in one day. The canyon is very deep and hot and it is important that you remain safe because it is easy to slip or become dehydrated. In fact, many people die each year at the canyon for making stupid decisions, committing suicide, murder, dehydration, or growing in the Colorado River. For this reason, it is important to be safe and in my opinion, small children and the elderly should not hike into the canyon. There are also mules that you can ride into the canyon with a tour guide, but you also need to arrange that in advance. However, the Grand Canyon is a great place to visit and its beauty is breathtaking!
