Hotels In Frankfurt Am Main

Updated on July 9, 2010

Why I Recommend City Hotel Mercator in Frankfurt

There is a massive choice of hotels in Frankfurt am Main. My friend and I recently attended a wedding in Frankfurt, Germany and we stayed at the City Hotel Mercator. It is situated about 20 minutes walk away from the town centre. The reason we chose this hotel was because it was offered at a reasonable price and they offered 3 beds in a room with an en suite bathroom. I am usually a budget traveler and so too was our other friend but we were meeting with a friend from Italy. She lives in Rome and is used to the finer things in life. We both agreed on a compromise. She agreed to spend a little less on a room and I agreed to spend a little bit more on the accommodation. That meant that I was looking at a hotel room that was a few levels above that of a youth hostel but still priced at a good bargain.

The first choice would have been a hotel near the main station in Frankfurt but that also happened to be the red light district and we knew that it would not be advisable for two young ladies to hang out in the area. We knew that we would be out until late every evening and maybe a little worse for wear and so we didn’t really want any hassle.

Nice & Tidy - City Hotel Mercator

The City Hotel Mercator was fantastic. It was just around the corner from the tramline stop and bus stop, so quick and easy to get to and from the town centre. There was also a night manager at the hotel who greeted us with a smile, even at 5.30 in the morning when we returned from a night of salsa dancing.

Excellent Breakfast at the Mercator Hotel

Included in the price was a buffet breakfast which consisted of a range of cereals, bread, toast, ham, cheese and a choice of fresh fruit. In other words, a continental breakfast. You could eat as much as you wanted and breakfast was served from 7am until 10am.

We did miss breakfast one morning as we were too tired to get up for it after a very late night on the town. During the rest of our stay we made sure to set the alarm, went down for breakfast then returned to our room to sleep some more.

Clean & Cosy Hotel Rooms With Ensuite Bathroom

The staff were all very friendly and helpful but we did all joke that maybe we would have to pay a little bit more money in order to get the receptionist, in particular, to crack a smile.

The room that we had was very nice. There was a wardrobe, a double and single bed as well as a massive TV. It was great to find that we could get MTV so we had music blasting out before we headed out for a night on the town.

The Mercator Hotel in Frankfurt is a great choice for friends, couples or even families with small children. We had a family in the room opposite us and we didn’t hear a sound from the baby so the rooms are well insulated. There is a lift so you are not forced to stumble up and down stairs which is always a good thing.

So If you are looking at hotels in Frankfurt am Main, I can highly recoommend the hotel in Mercatorstrasse. There is also a great café just around the corner called Harvey’s Cafe which served a fabulous brunch and is a great place to people watch as you sit out enjoying the sun.
