How Powerful is Germany
Where is Germany
Germany is located in western Europe bordered by Denmark to the North, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg to the west, France and Switzerland south west, Poland to the east and finally Austria, and the Czech Republic south east.
How Powerful is Germany?
Germany is very powerful, Germany is ranked 7th on the National Power Index before the United Kingdom ranked (6th) and after India ranked (8th). This is solely due to the extreme power Germany holds within Europe.
Germany is a founding father of the EU, in addition Germany is the European union's biggest and most powerful economy. Germany is a member of NATO, the nation is also part of the UN and the G7 organisation. G7 holds the 7 most economically powerful nations, like Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and the United States, this boosts economic cooperation between these nations.
Germany is the largest economy within Europe (Source: CIA World Factbook) Even though Germany's economy is the largest in Europe it is showing signs of slowing down as it had 0.1% growth in 2013 compared to the UK which had 1.7% and France which had 0.3% growth. This is because the nation's economy is highly reliant on exports. China's economic slowdown this year will most likely cause Germans to be concerned about their economy, as China is an important export partner for the country.
The German army isn't the largest nor the most equipped army throughout Europe. They have around 61,000 soldiers which is much less than the United Kingdom and France despite this Germany sent the 3rd most amount of troops in to Afghanistan. The reason why Germany's army is smaller than France and the UK is that Germany doesn't usually get involved majorly in international major conflicts like France and the UK do.
Will Germany remain a Powerhouse?
Germany overall is growing slowly much slower than it used before the recession. Germany is seeing cuts to its military to keep their ever-slowly growing economy afloat. The nation is heavily reliant on its exports which is not reliable due to the economic slowdown of China which could have an affect on the economy. Germany is still a powerful player within the EU and will probably remain powerful within the EU for quite sometime as its economy is well ahead in terms of other nations, but with the fast growth of the United Kingdom's economy it could be a threat to Germany in the future. According to Nick Clegg Britain will and can overtake Germany by 2035. For now Germany is a power within Europe but soon it could lose its power status.
