K1 Visa Interview Basics What it is.

Having witnessed first hand a K-1 Visa interview with my fiancé at the embassy in the Philippines, I would like to share my knowledge with you so you what to expect during the interview. The Interview exam is without doubt the most highly anticipated and stressful part of the visa process, so it is essential that you prepare properly so you both have confidence and peace of mind going into it.

K-1 Visa interview questions are designed to access whether the relationship you have with your fiancé is legitimate or not, your foreign national fiancé shouldn't have a problem passing if she knows her fiancé well. The officer at his or her discretion may grant or deny the visa or ask for added information.

You don't need to attend the interview however, I highly recommend you go to support her. The interview itself can last from 10 to 20 minutes on average and will include some basic questions about her and her fiancé. It's important that she never tries to make up answers if she gets nervous or stuck on a question. Any attempt to misrepresent the facts of the case will result in denial of the visa. It's critical that your fiancé is consistent with all the information provided in the first application. The officer will ask to see documents containing proof of your relationship and that you have met in person at least once. They will want to see letters of correspondence such as photographs together, phone bills, emails, Skype, and wedding preparations, so the officer can see that the relationship has continued to evolve especially from the time the visa was first applied until the present.

K-1 Visa What do They Assess

The Interview assess that your foreign national fiancé has complete knowledge of her fiancé's life, this includes his family, children, past marriages, where he works, lives and whether she's really interested in marrying you or just trying to get to the US for a green card.

They will ask whether if she has ever committed any crimes or Visa fraud in her homeland or abroad. All applicants must give police reports from any country that she has ever lived and worked. They will want to know if she has had any health issues, all foreign national fiancé visa applicants must have and pass a medical examination to make sure she has no communicable diseases.

In conclusion your fiancé must be prepared to answer the types of question she will receive from the officer during the interview. It's also important to check and make sure you have all of your documents of evidence in order.

I met a couple of men at the embassy that told me in both cases they have been in the K-1 process for many years trying to get their fiancés home to the States because of mistakes on paperwork. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish, if you need to hire an attorney to help you with the paperwork by all means do so allowing your fiancé to do all the paperwork because you cannot be on hand or won't pay for help could be a big mistake. Having gone through this with my own fiancé and helping friends with their paperwork I can tell you that In many cases the girls simply don't fully understand the questions, after all English is a second language to them. Its better to hire an attorney to see the process through from the beginning because if you make mistakes and your visa gets denied it then becomes a much steeper slope to climb it's going to cost you even more delays and money.

Tip, you would think once your visa is approved you are completely in the clear, well think again. I discovered when my wife came back from the embassy to pick up her visa, the employee at the window took a couple of last-second stabs trying to trip her up with a couple of tricky questions in an attempt to deny handing her that visa so beware!
