My travel story from Bhubaneswar to Kuala Lumpur
Since when I was a child and a TV commercial used to pop up on my screen "Malaysia truly Asia" by Malaysian tourism, I used to be thrilled and excited to visit this country someday. It was 3rd of September 2019 when my dream came true and I got a chance to visit this magical place of Malaysia called Langkawi with my husband.
It was 11 pm when we boarded AirAsia from Bhubaneswar, Odisha to Kuala Lumpur and it took 3 hours 40 minutes to reach Kuala Lumpur. The airport was clean, big and attractive and one important facility that I found over there was a free buggy service that was available at the airport for those who need it, but you need to learn from the airline authorities on how to operate it. Then we rushed towards the immigration counter for clearance but to our surprise, there was a long queue of people and the queue was resembling just like a very long snake. There were many people who were standing in front of the immigration counter for clearance but fortunately, we were able to clear all formalities within 30 minutes.
Items That Need to be Presented at the Clearance Counter
As soon as I reached the immigration counter, I submitted my passport, visa and the boarding pass. The immigration officer asked me to stand in front of the small camera placed in front of his desk and asked to give my fingerprints and as I did it, they handed me my passport with an arrival stamp on it which means we are finally allowed to explore the country. Next, we headed towards gate no.14 where we boarded our next flight to Langkawi.
Timing Difference in Between India and Malaysia
Malaysia is 2 hours 30 minutes ahead of India. In order to avoid any confusion, it is very important to adjust your watch accordingly once you land at the airport and this is the first thing I did after completing my immigration process.
The currency of Malaysia is ringgit so before visiting this place one should have enough ringgits in their pocket as most of the shops over there will accept cash instead of cards.
Various Ways to Reach Langkawi From Kuala Lumpur
One can reach Langkawi either by air or by water. Roads are not available to reach this place as it is an island surrounded by water but you can take a train or bus if you want to enjoy a public ferry or a cruise ride. Ferries are cheap in comparison to flights but they will take more time and are good for visitors who have less time, but if you have enough time and you want to enjoy the ride then it is good to go on a ferry ride. There are flights available with various time slots at this place and we chose to reach by air as it is the fastest way to reach the island. We boarded AirAsia which flew at 9 am and we reached the place at 10:20 am. It took only 1 hour 20 minutes to reach the magical island called Langkawi.
View From the Airport of Langkawi
As soon as the plane's wheel touches the ground of Langkawi, the scenic radiance of the place embraces you with lots of positivity. The moment you step out of the plane, the scenic beauty of the place will seize your eyes with beautiful images. The chain of mountains armed with green lustrous trees with crystal clear water is surely a treat for the naked eyes.

Places to Visit in Langkawi
Dataran Lang, Eagle Square
This is one of the most noticeable places in Langkawi. A giant gate next to the jetty welcomes you to witness the spectacular man-made structure of an eagle poised to fly with large open wings with an attitude to fly high. When I reached here I came to know that according to the folklore, Langkawi's name came from two Malay words: "healang" which means eagle and "Kawi" which means "reddish brown". This place attracts a lot of tourists.
Kuah Jetty is located just adjacent to the Eagle Square. It is the main ferry terminal in Langkawi and the place is worth a visit. While entering the jetty point, many small shops and stalls may grab your attention. Here you can shop for all kinds of articles including souvenirs and gifts, chocolates and perfumes, watches and electronics, T-shirts, among others.
Best duty-free shops are available within a walkable distance from the Eagle Square. The Jetty Point Mall is known to have duty-free items. Chocolates and alcohol are especially good buys here.

Activities to do in Langkawi
Beras Basah Island
Next day we decided to go for an island hopping tour, so we took a sharing boat, the boat consists of 8 people, The boat driver instructed us to wear the safety jackets provided by them and we headed towards our first Island called Beras Basah Island
Bear's Basah Island is blessed with white sand, beautiful beaches and clean water, Good for relaxing and swim with small kids. But be aware of monkeys. we spent nearly an hour there with other tourists
Pulau Dayang Bunting Lake of the Pregnant Maiden
Then we headed to another Island called bunting Island, where one can witness nature's best portrait creativity. Before reaching the jetty our boat driver had shown us the Island from a distance. Nature had carved it in such a way that it looks like a pregnant woman lying on her back on nature's lap. It is the second-largest island in the Langkawi cluster of islands. The literal meaning of its name is 'Island of Pregnant Maiden'. And it has a wonderful large freshwater lake (known as Lake Guillemard) surrounded by hills having dense rain forests. The lake too is known as Lake of the Pregnant Maiden. We spend around 1hour here. An amazing thing about the lake is, although it lies very close to the sea and separated by only a thin strip of rocks, it is a freshwater lake. Once we reach the island, there is a narrow jetty and then a concrete narrow pathway that leads up to the hills through the forest. After about 10minutes of climb along with steps on the hill, there are more than 100 steps that lead down to the beautiful lake on the other side of the hill. There are many small shops available here where you can shop, eat. It was raining when we reached this place and we could not able to do any activities like boating though we got the tickets with a 50% discount but could not able to utilize it. I will also not recommend anybody to visit the lake, especially during rain or when you have a baby or anybody who is having any mobility problems as It's a bit of a hike up the mountain from the jetty and then down to the lake.
Watching these beautiful birds diving into the sea for food is a feast for the starving eyes. These strong magnificent birds will make you feel to be strong, determined and fly high. Once we reached the destination the boat driver stopped his boat and threw a few pieces of meats all of a sudden the clear sky filled with this reddish-brown eagles and came from nowhere and dived into the sea like missiles. While feeding, at any point in time you will see eagles hovering in the sky and swooping down as soon as they identify their targets.
Float through mangrove forests by boat as you learn about the ecosystem that surrounds you. It will make you feel like watching any documentary on the Discovery Channel.
After this, we watched fish farming and experienced feeding the stingrays eating from our hands. It was a lovely experience.
The water area around Pulau Chabang is excellent for snorkeling. You can see many different kinds of fish here. Snorkling helped me to overcome the fear of diving and I can able to admire the jaw-dropping underwater beauty.
