Kicking Off Summer With Portland's Beer Festival Scene
Portland's plethora of summer beer festivals confirm Travelocitty's listing of Portland as a major destination for beer lovers. Here's three festivals in June well worth catching.
Cheers to Belgian Beers
The summer beer festival season kicks off with Cheers to Belgian Beers festival, held from June 2 to 3, 2017. This event features over 70 Belgian-style beers brewed by Oregon craft brewers using the same single yeast strain. To ensure the diversity of the yeast strain, as well as show off the creativity of Oregon craft brewers, the color and strength of each brewery’s beer is determined by a dart throw. This ensures a wide diversity of beer styles that show off the artistry of how each brewer approaches the same yeast strain.
According to Rob Lutz, cofounder of StormBreaker Brewing, "Cheers to Belgian beers is one of my favorite beer festivals. The first craft beers I fell in love with were Belgian beers; quads, and dubbels, and even sours before I found IPAs. It's exciting to experiment and brew a beer specifically for a festival designed for Belgian beer enthusiasts especially in a place where hoppy beers are the dominant favorite." Fellow cofounder Dan Maleah adds, "It's interesting and fun to see what the other breweries will come up with utilizing the same yeast strain. It's a can't miss event."
This event will take place at the North Warehouse (723 N. Tilamook St.), and is free with a $20 charge for a glass and 8 drink tickets, which are required to taste any beers. Additional tastes are $1. No minors are permitted at this 21+ event
