Kindness is still Around
I took a long needed vacation this year and I was both shocked as well as very surprised. People never seem to change in the daily routine we become used to. Sometimes forgetting others do pay attention to what is happening around them, are and can be very thoughtful and kind.
Although since I am now in my 70's (well actually 73...shhhh) I do realize many younger people hold doors open, offer to reach something for me in stores, ask if they can help and it always makes my heart skip a beat. Older folks are also very thoughtful, and it makes me try harder to be as kind.
I sometimes get so into my own short comings, and aches and pains I forget to look around and have compassion for others. I do offer a smile, a hello and wait patiently for others who are slower then I am, but it always perks me up when someone speaks kindly and offers help. I promise myself to extend these acts of kindness more often.
On my trip last month, which was the first in 8 years, (as I was busy caring for my now deceased Mother), I experienced many helpful, understanding, kind people. I prepared for the trip by contacting my two credit card companies and explaining I would be traveling in four different states and gave them the dates I would be leaving as well as returning...this was suggested to me by a friend. So me and my Poodle "Little Bear", took off driving to California.
Things went well, but the day I arrived at my sisters house I received a cell phone call from one of my credit card companies. They told me they believed someone had made un-authorized charges and questioned me about them. There were 16-17 internet charges, that began after a gas fill up in Oregon. I do not have a laptop, or smart phone and was not on any computer, since I was busy driving. They of course took care of everything, issued me a new card and had it delivered to my sisters house in two days. I did make a police report, but they told me it was nearly impossible to catch these thief's, I being from Washington, it happening in Oregon and reported in California made for a lot of problems. He told me the world is not the same as it used to be, sadly the Credit card company would get the best results and even using cash isn't safe anymore.
My sister and I each have small dogs, I was surprised how many Motels are "Pet Friendly", and many stores (w/o food) allowed them inside. It made the trip more fun. My dog and I had a lot of time together and we both learned about traveling by car for a long distance. It seemed to me the rooms were really very clean and comfortable.
Also the town she lives in had many wonderful spots for our dogs to run, and on every Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. they have a special for Seniors at the local car wash. It cost only $4.00 and when you take your receipt inside they give you a free loaf of fresh wonderful bread of your choice. You are also allowed to vacuum out your car at no extra charge. I was very impressed with this offer of kindness for Seniors. Also a gas station was nearby. I actually went there twice during my visit... I wish my small town did this...maybe I can suggest it ?
It was good to be home and I have a better feeling for people as I run around doing my errands, getting away was wonderful and I know God is always taking care of me...I just hope I can be a kinder more thoughtful old woman in His Honor...
Be Kind...Be Gentle...Be Loving...Be Honest...Follow your heart... Hugs G-Ma :O)
