Lake Tahoe Great Vacation Spot All Year Long

Updated on September 22, 2014

Lake Tahoe - Year Round Playground

Lake Tahoe is a dream location for any vacationer. Lake Tahoe is one of those resort towns that can satisfy the desires of all individual tastes. In Lake Tahoe a family, a couple, or a group of friends, can go and enjoy a multitude of activities. Expect a great time all week long. Non-stop adventure all day and well into the night is common. Lake Tahoe has skiing (either water or snow) depending on the season, boating, snorkeling, swimming, camping, hiking, biking, shopping, walking and site-seeing. Since Lake Tahoe is located on the California and Nevada borders, adults can try their luck inside several casinos located on the Nevada side of the border. Hotels abound as well as cottages, resorts, and cabins. Feel like getting closer to nature? Lake Tahoe features several camp sites, including sites that are within several feet of the breathtaking, crystal, clear lake. The Lake Tahoe area also has great food.

The best thing about Lake Tahoe as a vacation location is that all budgets are workable. Stay in a casino close to the night action or bring your sleeping bag and camp out under the stars. Or switch it up a bit. Soak up some sun on the beach at the campsite by day and head over to the casinos at night. All the best things to do in Lake Tahoe during your vacation are all within 30 minutes driving distance. That's the beauty of Lake Tahoe. Look below for a plethora of links to help you with your Lake Tahoe vacation planning.

My Personal Experience

I'm a native of Southern California and Lake Tahoe is about an eight hour drive from my neck of the woods. When I was a child, our family would drive up and stay a week almost every other year for our summer vacation getaway. We would camp down at the South Shore at Camp Richardson. It was great fun for a child who lived in the city. We walked to the beach during the day and would come back and BBQ great food in the late afternoon. The weather was always perfect. After roasting marshmallows by the camp fire we would go to bed exhausted, yet eager to wake up in the morning and do it all over again.

As an adult I have traveled to Lake Tahoe several times, and this past summer I had the pleasure of taking my family, all four kids and hubby, to Lake Tahoe. This time we stayed in a cabin rental and it was a wonderful experience. We took the kids to the Truckee River and we went on several beach excursions. One day we traveled to the North Shore of Lake Tahoe and on another day we drove down to the South Shore. My childhood memories of Lake Tahoe are happy and comforting. Now as an adult I am sharing that love for Lake Tahoe with my kids.
