For decades, the word sport meant football and it is to this day a often played sport to play in this country, even though the fact that they do not have a lot of stadiums does somewhat restrict the popularity of the sport. Football requires huge stadiums and due to the fact that these are costly, many Lithuanians opt to play basketball or other indoor sports that can be played in a smaller space. Basketball is definitely one of the most played sports in the nation and, in fact, teams from Lithuania have performed quite well both in the Olympics and in a variety of competitions throughout the globe where they have gone up against incredibly talented teams from abroad.

Cycling, racing bikes in a competitive sports event, is an extremely popular sport in Lithuania and there have been several world renowned cyclists to come out of this country, including a fascinating set of siblings named Rasa and Jolanta Polikeviciute who are twins. In Lithuanian society, cycling is a exceptionally cherished sporting event among females. In addition to cycling, residents of this nation also play hockey. This popular pursuit is also provided in variations that combine the use of a bicycle or skis.

Certainly, people from Lithuania reside in a nation that energetically promotes keeping active and appreciating the different competitive events Lithuania has to offer.
