I live in Houston, and I have worked as a nurse. My interests include art, traveling, reading, gardening, cooking, and our wonderful pets.

Lo-Fi Vintage Boutique

The exterior of the lo-fi vintage boutique in Houston is an attention grabber for sure! When driving past one day, we first noticed the cartoon characters on one side of the building. The address is 1629 Westheimer Rd., Houston, Texas 77006.

There was another person taking photos the same day that I was engaging in it. We both had smiles on our faces.

Comics and Cartoons on Building

I loved reading the comics when I was a child and had a few favorites. Over the years, I must admit that my comic reading days have been somewhat limited.

Many of the cartoon characters portrayed on this wall refer to animated television cartoon series. Again my days of watching those have been curtailed. I loved the futuristic television show called Jetsons, which aired from 1962 to 1963.

I will admit having to look up the names of most of these cartoon characters on the Lo-Fi vintage boutique building because I was unfamiliar with them. I had heard of a few of them like the Simpsons as an example, but most were new to me. Does that date me? Ha!

More To View

Upon looking further, I found both sides and even the back of this free-standing building covered with murals and graffiti art. Below are some closer detailed looks at the art painted on this store building.

Brings Back Memories

Viewing the photo above makes me think of San Francisco. Leaving one’s heart in San Francisco is easy! My hubby and I have enjoyed several vacation days in that City by the Bay and would enjoy visiting there again someday.

Floating and Skating

I got a kick out of seeing the letter “e” floating along in a glazed doughnut as if it was an inner tube. The happy-looking long-nosed capital “E” character seemed to be having some fun on a skateboard.

Artistic License

Three rail lines are operating in our beautiful city, although no tunnels. By far, the majority of our public transport in Houston is by way of buses.

BETES

The graffiti artist who signed his name BETES is no longer alive from what I can gather. His graffiti paint art is a memorial of sorts and is widespread here in Houston and elsewhere. He was a member of the Nine Lives Krew of graffiti artists abbreviated as NLK.

Would colorful art on a building like this make you curious to see what is inside?

Interior of Lo-Fi Store

Naturally, after viewing the exterior of this store, I was curious as to what was inside the space. This store is a retro-inspired boutique selling vintage and used clothing as well as posters, team flags, caps, t-shirts, comics, vinyl records, and more.

Lo-Fi Website and Store Hours

Items are available to ship around the world, and people can order from their online website. Their store hours on Sunday are from 12 to 6 PM. Every other day of the week, the hours are from Noon to 9 PM. See what type of items are for sale in the video below.

Meaning of Lo-Fi

The term lo-fi has several implications. About sound, it means a poor or rough sound quality. Some old-time recordings have that. I remember most of my parent’s collection of old 78 records when played had scratchy sounds emanating from them.

As an adjective, it means retro or old-fashioned. Considering the vintage objects for sale in this Houston boutique, lo-fi seems like a perfect name!

      Hi Liz,

We often find that when we are near mural walls around our city. Usually, those who are taking photographs take turns in doing to give the next person adequate space to get their image. Sometimes I like to get other people in the image to show the scale. I'll be sharing more in the future.

      Hi Linda,

The artists undoubtedly had a lot of fun creating these colorful images. I knew some of the cartoon images but had to look up the names of others. Ha!

This is a very eye catching mural. I can understand why another photographer was there at the same time as you.

      Hi Pamela,

I have my comments set to be approved before they appear, and that is why they don't always show up quickly. Thanks for your comment. This is an eye-catching building, for sure!

      Hi Manatita,

Yes, whether child or adult, we can all benefit from colors and light as well as a bit of levity.

I don't know what happened to my comment that I wrote early this morning. I really like the paintings all over this building. I can't imagine driving by this building and not stopping to check out these paintings more carefully. I would go inside also. The pictures are very good too. This is another unique place to see when in Houston.

I enjoy looking at street art. The murals that you've shared are colorful and interesting. They are a great reminder of various cartoons. I think they're an excellent memorial for the artist as well.

      Hi Lorna,

I agree that these bright and colorful cartoon characters and the other portions of murals on this building would entice people to come in and take a look. Vintage clothing appeals to many people which is why places like this are in business.

I love murals and other street art. It reminds me of the 60's for some reason. It is always bright and cheerful, don't you think?

Thanks for sharing it with us.

What unique walls! I don't know how you can drive by this place and not stop to see more details. I use to love the comics also and I really like these walls. I would have to go inside also just to check it out. This is an interesting place for sure.

Peggy, this is a godd post. Have a great week.

This one is cute, charming, childlike. I'm tempted to say more for kids but we can all benefit from the colours of Light, the simplicity in beauty.

The interiors designs are very colourful.

Such an interesting store and the artwork would definitely entice me inside. I went through a phase of wearing vintage clothes as a student, mainly because I couldn't always afford new ones. I found they were really well made, more attractive and lasted much longer. Even today I can't pass a vintage store without wondering inside. If I ever get to visit Texas Peggy I will have so much to see and do, thanks to you. Take care.
