Family Friendly Activities

Madison is not only the state's capitol but a great place to raise a family. There are so many opportunities to take the family out for an outing it is impossible to give a fraction of them here, but I will most certainly try. For starters, The Madison Children's Museum was recently remodeled and has great activities for all ages, the Overture Center offers a variety of plays and children's events, there are many city and county parks (some even have camping) and plenty of events scheduled. Why not get everyone together and visit the Farmer's Market or the Art Fair on the Square? There are offerings from family dance to film nights at the local libraries. If these types of places don't suit your fancy why not try the Veteran's Museum or the Wisconsin Historical Museum? There are also indoor water parks at the local hotels, and go-karts, mini golf and much more. If you visit in the summer you could even see the Iron Man competition that is held in Madison every year!

For the Adventurer Without Children

There are many things to do in this beautiful city sans little ones, for instance the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, state capitol or the Orpheum Theater are sure to please. There are local breweries to tour and sample, and in nearby Middleton there is a Mustard Museum with more flavors of mustard than you thought were possible. There are several disc golf courses and plenty of hiking and biking to be had. Enjoy yourself on one of Madison's many lakes with a canoe or paddle boat rental or if it's chilly out, why not ice skate or ice fish on them? There are many fine dining restaurants with very diverse offerings, from Italian to African and even Indian cuisine or if you are more adventurous you could try out places like State Street Brats and the Fat Sandwich company, which makes all your favorite appetizers in to delicious sandwiches.

Night Life

There is a huge difference in the Madison scenery after dusk, there is live music, dancing and even plays and orchestras. Madison has a very active music scene and local musicians can be heard on almost any night. Due to the huge university nearby the downtown Madison area is crawling with pubs, taverns and bars, if you turn in any direction you are bound to see one. Many offer drink specials and food, live music or DJs and many offer outdoor seating weather permitting.

Never Be Short on Things to do!

Any time of year Madison is a great place to work, live, and visit. With so many activities planned at all times, this Madisonian could never be bored. Being a local my whole life I have a lot of experience and overall I think Madison is a great place for all ages and you should take it in at least once.
