Manila Zoo's First Attraction MALI

Manila Zoo at the heart of Manila

If you've been to Manila Zoo, more than 30 years ago, try to visit the place now and the only thing you can recall the last time you went there is Mali the Elephant, whose enclosure is just a few steps away from the main entrance.

After 30 years I went back to the place that had been a part of my childhood. I guess we never missed to visit the place every year when I was a little girl, and no doubt I have this heart for animals, because I grew up molded by a father who loved animals as well...

Although it was 3 decades ago, I can still remember that the zoo then is much more different from the present zoo... too many facilities where added causing my difficulty to recognize some enclosure that already existed since my childhood days.

My Photos at Manila Zoo during my younger days

I know I have plenty of pictures at the zoo when I was a little girl, father loved photography too, although we did not have a camera then, Professional Photographers were everywhere the zoo waiting for customers like us who would want to have a photo souvenir near their favorite animals.

But unfortunately only 3 survived, but I am still looking for more.

The oldest phote was taken in the year 1971, mom was carrying me and father was smiling, the one that looks like a giant bird cage was our back ground

The next oldest photo was taken near the Ostrich cage, I was three years old, is it the old Ostrich in my latest picture?

The 3rd picture was taken 1978, photo with Mother Giraffe and two baby giraffes,at present there is no giraffe in the Manila zoo, but the government is still trying to find ways how to get one...

Mali and Me

My long lost pal

I got excited when I saw Mali for the First time after so many years., I have a photo with her in my background when I was a little girl but it was not in my possession anymore, I think my auntie has it. Mali brings back the little girl in me, that I did not waste a minute and asked my friend to have my photo taken with her..

More Animals

More Animals at Manila Zoo

Though they no longer have my favorite Giraffe and a Zeal, aside from the pictures posted, there are still more animals that can be seen inside the zoo. Power of my digicam battery was not enough to capture all them.

Aside from the animals, there are other facilities inside the zoo; the Kinder zoo which offers wall climbing for kids, Restaurant, and MIni River for Boat ride.  there is also a Souvenir Shop inside

More Facilities

For people who visit the zoo

Many views and opinions have been said about our very own Manila Zoo, some were disappointed for the reason that maybe they expect more or some were just simple animal lovers who believe caging of animals is not right at all.

But for someone like me who had seen Manila Zoo in its younger years, I can say  in all fairness that it had improved a lot, it may lost some of its crowd drawer animals but those event can never be the fault of the management alone. One of the Giraffe died and something like plastic was found inside its stomach, who could be the culprit who fed Giraffe with a plastic?   As  people who visit the zoo, I guess we must do our part in maintaining the zoo. all we need to do is to respect the rules inside the premises, don't litter, it will not hurt us if practice cleanliness right? don't feed the animals, you're just a visitor, it's not your duty to feed them.

I will still recommend the Manila Zoo no matter what....

Nice job. I love the pictures. I also have plenty of pictures in Manila Zoo. We used to go there when my son and nephews were still little boys.
