Mbah Maridjan-The Guard of Mountain Merapi.
Merapi , dubbed as the wildest volcano in Indonesia, its wilderness has taken victims again. More than 30 people killed in the explosion on October 26, 2010, which one of the victims was Mbah Maridjan (83).The hot wave brought by "Wedhus Gembel" (clusters of brown pyroclastic which made similar appearance to herds of dirty-shaggy sheep) which the temperature could reach more than 650 ° C believed to be the cause of his death.
Mbah Maridjan was a figure who devoted his entire life for Merapi. He had lived at the foot of the vulcano for more than 80 years, persistently encouraged surrounding people, climbers and visitors to conserve the environment of Merapi. His spiritualism also enlightened others to respect the mountain and he used to conduct sacred rituals so that God Almighty lavished protection to the mountain.
Mbah Maridjan's loyalty and dedication had aroused Sultan (The King) Hamengkubuwono IX of Yogjakarta to place him as one of the Royal Servants and endowed him with royal title Mas Penewu Surakso Hargo.
His endless loyalty remained undaunted despite the looming manace from Merapi on October 26 and when he said his Magrib (dusk) prayer, came the Wedhus Gembel with its deadly heat and took his life in the position of Sujud (a movement in muslim prayer when forehead touches earth).
Farewell Mbah Maridjan. The nation prays for your best place to rest in heaven. Amen.
