Muddy Run Park is located in southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It encompasses 700 acres of rolling woodlands and fields around a 100 acre lake. Some of the activities you can take part in are boating, hiking, fishing, and camping. There are playgrounds throughout the park for kids. On a visit to the park there's a good chance you'll see some wildlife. Deer, geese, squirells, ducks, turtles, and many species of birds call Muddy Run home. If you need a bite to eat after a day hiking or boating there's a snackbar overlooking the lake.

Boating

Muddy Run offers boat rentals or for a small fee (if you're not camping at the park) people can use the park's boat dock to launch their own boats. Inflatable boats and gasoline powered engines are not allowed. Kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, and row boats are available for rent. At the time of publishing this hub fees range from $8-11 for the first hour. The self-launch boat dock fee is $4.

Hiking

There are several miles of hiking trails in Muddy Run. The Lakeshore Trail is 2.7 miles and ,as the name suggests, circles around the lake. It goes through woods and fields along the way. A sign says to allow about two hours to complete the hike. The is also a Wetland Interpretive Trail and a Bluebird Trail as well as other short trails and hikes.

Fishing

The park's lake is home to many different kinds of fish including bass, catfish, bluegills, carp, and trout. NOTE: As of 2008, fishing is no longer allowed in the resevoir between Muddy Run Park and the Susquehanna River, but it's still allowed all over the park.

Camping

Muddy Run's campground has almost 200 sites, most with electric and water hook-ups. It's open from the end of March until the end of October each season. Every site has a picnic table, fire ring, a charcoal grill, and a paved pad for parking. There are sites in the woods as well as in the grassy fields. There are bathroom facilities with hot showers, a campstore near the boat rental dock, a coin operated laundry, and pay phones available. NOTE: Many cell phones don't get service in the area.
