As most of us know that Nainital is one of the best and popular hill stations of India, it happens to be in proximity to my hometown Ranikhet as well. So this Autumn I planned a trip to the beautiful place. I would like to share about my trip and give you some genuine and travel friendly tips.

Nainital is considered to be one of the best Hill stations of India.

To reach Nainital from Delhi, you have to board a train till Kathgodam railway station, which is about 30km far from Nainital. I booked my tickets in the Shatabdi express which leaves Delhi at 6 am; the fare being only 900 INR as it is a CC train. The journey was comfortable, and I reached Kathgodam at around 12 pm. Kathgodam is well connected to Nainital by road and you can find a shared cab or hire a taxi for yourself. It costs 150rs for the former and 2000rs for the latter. It takes 1.5 hours to reach Nainital. My trip to Nainital was much awaited as I belong to Kumaun but had never ever visited this beautiful place in my life. It was a retreat and to be honest I found it better than Shimla where I went last winter . Coming back to my trip, the first thing you would get to see after reaching Nainital by cab/bus is the beautiful Naini Lake. The cabs drop you at the bus stand of Nainital from where the Lake starts. I had my hotel booking in Mallital for which I had to go via Mall road. Mallital is at the middle of a hill which has its base in Mall road. You can either walk towards mall road and look for hotels there or you can also prefer Mallital because it is less crowded and is near to a famous view point called Tiffin top.Mall road has Naina Devi Mandir, Boating facilities, Rope way, a Gurudwara and Bara Bazar as its main attractions.

Boating

There are three kinds of options available.

1. Rowing(single person)

2. With a helper

3. Peddling by yourself

The timings for boating are morning 9 to evening 6 pm. So even if you reach Nainital in evening you can go for this option. It is immensely peaceful and refreshing. Costs only 160 bucks for an hour. The experience was beyond words. Its the best experience in boating that I have had so far. It's really wonderful that Naini Lake is situated at such height amidst such beautiful mountains. You can literally watch clouds and fog moving across the sky.

Second day in Nainital

The next day I thought about trekking to Dorothy's Seat and Tiffin Top, the former being a famous viewpoint in Nainital. Since my stay was in Mallital i.e. on a little elevation from Mall road, reaching the viewpoint was easier. I walked by foot and reached the base where horses were being hired for the route to Dorothy's Seat. I decided to go by foot as the weather was good and the distance wasn't that much. I am so happy with my decision, it's difficult to express. The route was so enthralling and beautiful that I enjoyed every bit of it. I couldn't stop myself from taking photos and videos all through. There were butterflies, the sun, periodically fog and clouds, flowers and magnificent trees.

Reaching Dorothy's Seat and Tiffin Top

Tiffin Top is like a vast garden with tall trees and greenery and I approached it approximately 100 meters before Dorothy's seat. The former is an excellent spot for family picnic. Reaching to Dorothy's seat was all the more magnificent. The view of Nainital from there rejuvenates you completely. There are three small restaurants where you can have Maggi, coffee and other light stuff. The back to Mallital was much easier as I took shortcuts. Make sure you wear trekking friendly clothes and shoes if you also decide to go by foot.

Rope Way

After the 4 hours trek, I decided to go for the famous rope way which connects mall road to Himalaya viewpoint. Its a 5 minutes journey on the rope and its beautiful. The ticket pricing is 190 INR for adults. You can see the Naini Lake from a height there. The main attractions in the Himalayan viewpoint is an Amusement Park for children, A Govt. approved bar and a spot which has huge binoculars to give a view of Himalayas. Unfortunately, I did not get to experience the sight as the weather was foggy due to a slight temperature rise.
